Le Beaujolais Nouveau est Arrivé!

It's the third Thursday of November and you know what that means.....

The new Beaujolais has arrived in wine and liquor stores across the world!

There is a lot to love about Beaujolais Nouveau - for one thing it is the perfect red wine for white wine lovers since it is so bright and juicy with less bite than other reds (and it's best served slightly cool). For another thing it's fun to be part of the tradition of the Beaujolais Nouveau. By French law it cannot be released before the Third Thursday of November and so as you sip some today for the first time- so are thousands of people around the world!

Check out some fun facts about Beaujolais Nouveau here

Quote from The Washington Post, by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg:
"Because Beaujolais Nouveau is released annually on the third Thursday of November -- exactly one week before Thanksgiving -- the two have become as inextricably linked as Champagne and New Year's Eve. Tomorrow, you can proclaim 'Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrive' just in time to serve as a classic and reasonably priced (the 2007 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau is $10) accompaniment to Thanksgiving dinner, plus any buttery cheeses such as brie or Camembert that you might set out before or after the meal." (November 14, 2007)

So join the worldwide party and tradition and head out to your local wine shop/liquor store today and pick up a few bottles today!

Sarah, I tried this one last year after you recommended it. Yay! It's fantastic. I'll have to make sure to pick up some more this year (if I can keep the Future Husband from drinking all of it...he usually ends up with most of something, if it's something I really like).

I cannot drink it this year because I am of course pregnant - quelle horreur! - but pregnancy be damned, I will be picking up a few bottles today anyway as is yearly tradition. Tradition trumps the odd looks I am sure to get as I stand in line at the wine shop!

If I don't, my mother will be PISSED on Thanksgiving that I don't have the new Beaujolais.

Sounds good. I am not really a red wine drinker, but I love traditions--I think you have convinced me to buy a bottle!

I remember you proclaiming Beaujolais day last year.... and I bought a bottle and enjoyed. I would have spaced on it this year had it not been for your bloggy reminder - merci madame!

I'm with Jackie - I completely forgot what today was ...

You know I'm going to buy a few bottles because, thanks to your note last year, this is my absolute favorite wine!!!

I read this post this morning and then walking through Harvard Square during lunch time, what did I see? Cases of it being unloaded from a truck! I've never had it before but now I feel like I have to get a bottle--I'll let you know what I think of it!

Baby X has taken me off the wine drinking list this year. So make sure you remind me to pick it up next year. Oh sure I could get some for my family to enjoy in front of me at Thanksgiving. But I'm not that selfless ;)

I'm looking forward to trying this year's vintage. Last year, I didn't love quite so much.

I'm toying with doing Pinot Noir this year for something different with dinner...and doing Gwertzaminer (Sp) for the white. :)

While I totally love the excitement around the beaujolais neuveau I just couldn't bring myself to buy still more wine - we bought six more bottles when we were in Sonoma and a new shipment came a couple weeks back. Yeah, just can't swing it.
