A Dinnertime Scene

Me: EW look at that couple, they are sitting on the same side of the table.
Adam: Aw
Me: Gross.
Adam: Well I know how YOU feel about it. I"ve known since our first date.
Me: What do you mean?
Adam: On our first date when we were seated I went to sit next to you and you looked at me like I was nuts so I said "Can I sit next to you?" and you said "Oh God No".
Me (clearly not remembering this gem of a first date tidbit): HAHAHAHA

Sure, some may say I was a beast*. And Adam should have taken that as a clear signal to run far far away. But some are probably of the same school of thought as me - that you have to nip that kind of behavior IN THE BUD, oui?

(*btw yes, I am a beast)

You are absolutely right about this one! It's the sitting-down equivalent of putting your hand in someone else's back pocket.

Oui. On Aaron's and my first date we made fun of a couple sitting next to each other! (and we continue to do so to this day...)

I totally agree...totally weird and kinda creepy. This is along the same lines as 2 people sitting in a truck with a bench seat and someone sits in the middle and leaves the passenger seat open...NO THANK YOU! :)

Ok see, I like the sitting next to each other. But then I'm a freak.

I hate when couples sit next to each other! I have a friend who is engaged and she and her fiancee are like that. If they're not sitting next to each other, they die! Makes me gag.

I'd prefer to sit across from my boyfriend anyway, then I can actually see him and I have some space!

Um yes, absolutely...same side sitting is so not okay. I don't even like when Sean & I are meeting friends out and we get there first. I don't want people to think we're Same Side Sitters.

Sitcom girl I don't think you are a freak! You are just a nicer girlfriend than I am. :-P

And Melissa I also agree it makes it easier to talk definitely and lord knows I do love to talk.

Yes, I was to SEE the person I am with.

And be able to kick them if necessary.

Because thats what kind of wife I am.

i can't STAND that! ewww is right!

Ok I didn't want to overload you guys with vomitousness

But....

This couple was also feeding each other mussles. If only I had caught them eskimo kissing in public that would have completed the Gross Couple Trifecta.

I totally agree!!!
I have banished PJ to the other side of the table on a couple occasions. It drives me NUTS and he knows it.
Last time we went out, I made him wait an extra 20-30 min for a booth to open up rather than do a side-by-side table.
The only reason to be sitting side-by-side is if you're eating at a diner counter, or you're seated at the BAR. Totally obnoxious.
Plus, I like to look at him while we're talking. There's no need to bump elbows. I will not die if we don't hold hands for 10 minutes.

So funny, I always see couples doing that, and my first reaction is always "Hmm, that's odd..."

I guess its sort of cute, but I'm so not into cute. I definitely prefer the face to face, eye contact kind of seating arrangement. Besides, playing footsie under the table is SO much more fun if you're facing each other. Not that I do that now since I'm married now. Us married folks, we're boring. But I digress....
