How many miles my office is away from my home: 25
How long it usually takes me, on average, to drive those 25 miles: 30-40 minutes
How long it took me today: 2 hours and 20 minutes
How much of that time was spent driving the LAST THREE MILES: 1 hour and 40 minutes.
All I will say is this. Those traffic alerts? That tell you about accidents when you've already been waiting in traffic for an hour? Should just cut to the chase and be honest with us.

it WAS gross. it was even grosser when i got off at Rt 16 thinking it would be better and, somehow, it was much worse. because of course lots of traffic on a highway is still better than lots of traffic WITH STOP LIGHTS.
i think i've earned a flawless commute home today.
Are you driving stick or automatic? Because I've done three hours in a stick, and thought my leg would fall off.
i drive an automatic, my boyfriend drives stick and i know much he hates life when he is stuck in really bad traffic.....but let me tell you, 2.5 hours driving an automatic in 3 inch heels ain't no cakewalk either :-P
I was stuck in the same traffic for the same amount of time. Absolutely fucking awful.
Also, I wore flipflops in the car and changed into heels before I got into the office.
you are smart. i usually have sneaks in the backseat for these kinds of occasions but of course i didn't have them today!

This further reinforces my desire to utilize public transportation as much as possible when I move to the city.
I agree, a flawless commute home is definitely in order.

Sarah - I rotted in the same traffic this morning. 6:45-9:15 I was ready to crawl out of my skin. I am definitely starting to store nips in my car specifically for these types of horrid commutes.

I'm sooo sorry - that's one thing I DON'T miss about up north - that damn traffic near Boston - ugh!!! Around here tho, dangers lurk everywhere with tourists and whatnot (and displaced Northern Drivers who WANT to relive the Boston BigDig Nightmare)..
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a swift ride home for you today!!!

That sign says it all!
It used to take me 20 minutes back in 1991 to do a 17 mile commute but by 1997 it was already up to 40 minutes. Today, it could take 40-60 minutes depending on traffic. However, since then I've carefully studied the traffic patterns and found a way to guarantee 30 minutes no matter what traffic is doing. Now that I've moved much closer, I think I'm going to start selling those tricks of the road and make a bunch of freakin' money...
i am jealous! i know a few tricks, but definitely not enough! if 128 south is ever shut down in the evening because of an accident..i usually have to follow a coworker home, haha! or else use Rt 9 and the VFW parkway to get from newton to quincy which let me tell you ain't exactly a straight line OR a short cut.
Catching up on my reading and you just made me shoot apple cider all over my keyboard. I wish it was an apple martini, but alas.
