So, the move happened.

I won’t bore you with box by box details of the move but some important highlights are sure to entertain/make you feel bad for us.

*When we put the deposit on our new apartment last month, our landlord said we could have one week to move in. So we would begin moving in on the 26th and have until the 1st to be completely moved in. She asked that since she was generously giving us a week, if we could SUPER CLEAN the apartment before we leave. As in scrub the floors, super scrub the bathroom, vacuum, wipe down the walls, clean the oven, etc. We agreed.

*At 9AM on Saturday, the day we were moving in, our landlord’s daughter came to give us the key and told us that we had to get everything out TODAY> When Adam reminded her of the deal we had with her mom, she said her mom must have misspoke because they wanted to have the apartment RENTED on the 1st. So we had to be long gone by then. Needless to say we were pissed!!!

*Our landlord also decided, in her infinite wisdom, that it would be a good idea to have 2 apartments moving out and 1 apartnebt moving in on the same day at the same time, in a 5 unit building that only has one hallway big enough to allow furniture to come in and out of. She also told Adam’s dad he had to move his truck, even though we were loading furniture into it, so a Uhaul belonging to a new tenant could pull up. Isn’t that sweet? We didn’t move the truck, FYI.

*Thanks to our awesome helpers, we got pretty much everything moved in by 4PM and what wasn’t moved in was boxed up for easy moving the next day (we had until 2PM Sunday). So we spent Saturday night unpacking and shifting things around and went over to the old place at 9AM to bring the rest, and spent about 2 hours cleaning. About an hour after we left, our landlord came back and told us the apartment was not clean to her satisfaction. I am telling you now that it was spotless. It’s an OLD Apartment with an old tub, old linoleum and old carpets. When it is perfectly clean, it still looks a little dingy. So she says “I wanted you guys to clean this place so it is as nice as the place you are moving into” Hello!! The place we are moving into is BRAND NEW. An apartment that has had the same flooring and counters since 1985 is never going to look as nice as a unit that has all new versions of those things. That is just common sense. But because I had no fight left in me, we went over there and did a perfunctory re-cleaning. For a while the landlord and her daughter were in the unit basically watching us clean until Adam informed them that we were big kids and didn’t need supervision and they left. I swear when we were done it looked no different than it had a few hours ago, but they decided NOW it was okay. Yeesh!!

But when it was all said and done we have a lovely new place that we are in love with. We got most of it set up yesterday/last night and Adam has today off to finish up and I have tomorrow off to welcome the delivery of new furniture.

And there WERE defintely good parts of the move too, mainly one of the tenants in our new building who is moving out gave us his nearly brand new toaster oven since he was joining the military and wouldn't need it. And we had been plannning on buying that EXACT kind when we moved in and had more counter space. So, life has a way of evening out.

When all is said and done, t was totally worth the 9 hours of moving, the 2 hour cleaning and re-cleaning of the old place, the bitchy landlord shenanigans, and the pulled muscles and mysterious bruises all over my body.

But I am never moving again.

i cannot believe that your land ladies made you hurry your move and then made you re-clean and then stood there and watched. i hate them. i really do.

wow. i hate your old landlord. actually, i think i hate most landlords.

that's a broad, unfair generalization and i probably don't mean it, but for now, it stands.
