The fabulous Kathryn over at Budget Fashionista was kind enough to send me a copy of her new book How to Be a Budget Fashionista: The Ultimate Guide to Looking Fabulous for Less to review. I am happy to say that I LOVED it.

I have been a fan of Miss Finney's website BudgetFashionista.com for some time now after randomly reading one of her make-up tips on another girls' blog. She is chock full of advice on where to get what and how to spend less on what and when to hit up the where so you can get the best deal. She always knows the when the latest online sample sale are happening and shares her deals and finds with all her loyal readers, along with fashion and beauty tips via the Budget Fashionista newsletter that goes out several times a month.

That being said, when I first got a copy of her book I was afraid it was going to be too didactic, too "don't spend your money on THIS, spend your money on THAT" or too preachy about the saving of the money (something I am not really that great at). However once I started reading I realized this was not the case. Kathryn L-O-V-E-S shopping. And you can tell with every chapter that she wants you to love it as much as she does (if you don't already) and she has all kinds of tips, advice and tricks to help you get the most bang for your buck from where to shop to get the best deals on the latest designers to how to take care of the gorgeous items you got fabulous deals on so they can last their longest.

And she is not a budget advocate in the "Only buy things on clearance" sense of the word. In fact, one great point she makes is that spending a lot of money on a fantastic, well made and classic piece is actually more thrifty than getting 75% off something that you won't get that much use of/won't last you forever. This is an important point for me, a clearance rack troller.

Essentially it is a Shopaholic's Bible, for people with Tiffany hearts and Target wallets.

You can check out the book here, and even if you can't spend $10 on this fabulous find of a book, you should at least check out the website.

I am a true believer of spending the moola on classic pieces. Once every few of years I shell out for good quality wardrobe basics/classics -- smart trousers in black, khaki, and navy, crisp white button downs..etc. These are the pieces that always last the longest ... and I usually end up keeping them forever - because that's the wonderful thing about classic pieces - they're always in style!

precisely! she actually has given me the great idea to sell half of my handbag collection (the ones that i keep under my bed and who see the light of day MAYBE once or twice a year) and use that money towards investing in something classic. i'm leaning towards Kate Spade.
