Please God

Make It

STOP

The persistance of "shorts" this spring/summer is really starting to grate on my nerves. I personally have not worn shorts since the very late 90s. For me, I really believe that shorts are for high school girls, plain and simple. I mean it's fine for the beach (although i would much prefer something like this) or working out or bumming around or what have you. And I can appreciate that not everyone feels that way. And I know/firmly believe that a woman's personal style is her own prerogative.

But shorts are NEVER okay in a "dressed up" ensemble. I do not care what Carrie Bradshaw told you. She also wore overalls and flourescent leggings which proves to me that just because it was on SATC does not make it okay.

Repeat that to yourself next time you are in Neiman's. You will thank me.

omg!! I hate shorts too, except in the same instances you mentioned... I look at old pictures of myself wearing them and cringe. But never have I ever seen them in dress-up ensembles like those!! DISGUSTING!! hahaha!

you hit the nail on the head. there just seems to be something a bit 'wrong' about women fast approaching 30 wearing shorts. it's almost (this isn't the word i'm quite looking for, but whatevs) 'gross' maybe? i'm just sayin'. ;)

ha! yes, i agree, shorts can never be dressy. i do tend to wear cut-off denim shorts on lazy summer weekends, but i'm thinking about trying to find some comfy cargo shorts to bum around in as well, but this new trend is ridiculous!

and those long, skinny shorts?? ugh, god, that was awful the first time around! just because some fashion trends are revived doesn't mean all fashion trends should be revived!

and for those of us with big hips, well, this plus the Skinny Jeans thing is one, big, cruel fashion joke.

haah fleecey, "gross" is the perfect word for it :-)

i like the "idea" of skinny jeans. but when i see them on real people they just look tapered which is No Good.. i am conflicted.

Horrible. As far as I'm concerned "just because Carrie Bradshaw wore them" is actually a reason NOT to wear something. Don't get me wrong, I love SATC, but please. She was a train wreck 99% of the time. Remember the low riding skirt with the shirt tied up under her breats and the belt on her waist? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Oh crap. Are short shorts back this year? I need to shop for my upcoing vacation. Looks like skirts and capris are on the agenda. I haven't enjoyed wearing shorts for several years now but at least they weren't showing butt cheek.

i agree wholeheartedly. shorts are beyond casual.

anonymous who are you!! i was going to reference that exact outfit but i didn't want to freak non SATC watchers out! haha!

I totes agree, the shorts are dumb and look childish. If it's hot out, wear a skirt or cute little sun dress. Not all of us have the muscled gams of miss Carrie Sarah Jessica Bradshaw, or the personal chef, or the personal trainer.....

Hate to break the chain here, ladies. I wear shorts. I'll be the first to admit that I generally look like someone's middle-aged vacationing mom in them (please, someone tell me what shorts should look like on a long legged short waisted body type???) But if it's hot and I'm about to get dirty or ride on a rollar coaster, only shorts will do. I do agree that there are no such thing as "dressed up" shorts. Puh-leeze! Remember the brief "satin capri cargo pants with heels" fad a couple years ago? Every time I saw a girl wearing that, I wanted to punch her. As a sometimes bummy art chick, I am a fan of full-on cargo pants. Shorts and cargos have a purpose. It's because you're hot and/or dirty. Or both. It was just stupid. I'm waiting for the "dressed-up" overalls with heels next. 2008 = watch for it!

Capris/cropped pants are fashion's gift to me. Shorts are evil and only flattering if you're a fencepost. :)

it looks like the last girl has done the FOLD and ROLL... ouch, please tell me that fashion is NOT coming back into style.

known around these parts as "pegging" your pants. good lord, if it really has resurfaced, let us hang out heads.

"pegging," jesus, this IS a flashback. is it only called that in mass? i guess i always just assumed it was a global term, since boston is the hub of the universe and all :)

oh, and though i am ok with capri pants, have you all seen the I Hate Capri Pants blog? seems like it's defunct now, but gotta admit, it was pretty funny while it lasted.

I'd chime in but I'm a guy, what do I know I just look at the legs.
