so, on friday morning Adam and I are leaving bright and early for Philadelphia to catch a Sox game, and take in a new city for the weekend. we're staying here, and through this brilliant package deal we got from AAA, we have passes to the zoo, independence national park, some museums (art and science!) and the city-trolley. i have never been to philly before and i am PUMPED.

so, if any of you out there have been and have any "must-sees" for me, bar/restaurant reccomendations, shopping hot spots, i would so appreciate being enlightened.

A strong opinion from a random reader: the one place I feel you really must go, the place that has no equal in Boston, is Capogiro on Sansom Street (an easy walk from city hall, reading terminal, etc.). It's fabulous gelato that is umlike anything else I've ever had outside of Italy. Dozens of fresh, seasonal flavors made there every day. They open early and stay open late so I like to go at least twice a day when I'm in Phildadelphia. Have fun.

Hit the old railway station. A grand old art deco structure not to be missed. Food? For Italian try "Mels" at: 201 Jefferson ST., Belmont Hills--off the beaten path perched on a hillside SF-style but well worth it, Go at night. NOT TO BE MISSED: The MANAYUNK area. Has a main drag a lot like Magazine St. here in New Orleans, with lots of good restaurants, antique shops, jewelry, book stores etc., lots of quirky shops of all kinds. Don't trust me? Ask the locals when you get there. Philly is a GREAT city despite its problems.
