well dolls, the dress-shopping was a miserable failure. i promise it was not from lack of trying: we hit Marshall's and TJ's and Macy's and Filene's and The Basement and Banana Republic....and nothing! It's like I either have to look like a prom-goer or a mother-of-the-bride. There was no happy medium between the jewel-colored trashy-tragic-fairy dresses and the matronly, sparkly, shift dress-with-matching-jacket. can a sister get a strapless black satin dress?
i was especially dissapointed with Filene's. having got my last wedding-attending dress there, i assumed i could expect a repeat performance from the retail gods. this was simply not to be. i have to tell you: i am a bargain shopper. i don't like spending full price on a dress to attend an event where i am not the main attraction. and given that i am not even in the wedding (well, i do get to press play on the CD player at the ceremony), the attention will be not on me times 5. that's fine though. my point is that i want to look nice, but i don't have to steal the show. Jenny and i have strict rules about showing up the bride (it is easily done, since most people look heinous in white, but still a no-no). and it just so happened that every dress i fell upon in Filenes, although marked 15% off, or 30% off or even clearance..was full priced. they even tried to full a fast one on me by claiming that the lovely long violet gown i picked out was full price and just put on the wrong rack...when there were 6 or 7 other of the same gowns all on the same rack which just happened to be marked "clearance". I could have pulled the "let me speak to a manager" card, but to be honest i was exhausted, my feet hurt and i was miffed to instead i threw the dress onto a rack of wonderbras and walked out.
i have not lost all faith though: i will find The Right Dress. even if it neccesitates a trip to Wrentham (cue heavenly choir music)
