this is going to be sort of ill: so brace yourself. especially since i know people i work with read this and know the person i am writing about but whatever. i don't have a blog so i can mince.
so, i am in charge of my company softball game which we are playing next friday. truth be told, i could give a sh*t about this game but i am forced to pretend it's really exciting and that planning the logisitics is definitely how i want to be spending my time. now, part of the planning that went into this game is the ordering of baseball jerseys. i ordered them about a week ago and got the names of everyone attending the game via a mass company email i sent out. other people involved in management in my office saw my finalized list before i sent it out for production, and in fact i asked my boss to double check and make sure i didn't forget anyone and she agreed that the list was complete. so off it went.
fast forward to the staff meeting today
during the meeting, one of the VPs brings up the game and everyone starts talking about it. one woman who sort of works with me (she comes to meetings, but i am not sure what she does and she is NEVER in the office) immediately starts shrieking like an infant "i didnt know about ths game! oh my god! i didn't even know!" and she starts yelling at me from across the room "sarah you didnt invite me! oh my god! why wasnt i invited! oh my god!". she seriously looked like she was going to cry. first of all, she isn't on my email list because i have never emailed her in my life nor have i ever had occasion too. she doesn't even really work in my office. second of all, many other people checked my list including a personal friend of hers so they could have easily noticed that she was not on my list. but whatever, she keeps talking to me, talking OVER the VP who has sinced moved on to another subject. it's not even like she was sitting right next to me, she was YELLING from across the room. finally i couldn't mince anymore and i was like "leave me alone". she was acting like i personally made a decision to leave her out of this game.
maybe i am cold hearted..but is it THAT big a deal that she may or may not get a t shirt for this softball game? and is it REALLY neccessary to interupt the meeting every minute or so to yell about it. you are like 50 for christs sake. be more worried about your gray-ass roots.
i think i am doing what andy calls "reading" but whatevs.
anyway after she had made a sufficient enough scene i waited until the meeting was over and then, like a normal person, calmly called the t shirt company and reserrved her one as well. but it doesnt stop there. one of my bosses emailed me a few minutes later and told me that "in addition to W's shirt you will also need to order one for S. S is her 10 month old baby who apparently is in dire need of a baseball jersey. it would "like, totally make her year" like a baby gives a crap what it wears. so i had to spend a large chunk of time today tracking down a design company who carries onesies.
i have to be honest, i have no tolerance for adults who carry on like babies. i am busy. say what you want, tell me what you need, and then leave me be. i will get it done. i don't need misplaced hysterics and whiny dramatics to pepper what is usually already a stressful day. what you may think is a huge deal is probably something i can take care of in, say, one minute if you would just stfu.
whew, glad i got that out
and then, someone had the nerve to have a "medical emergency" on the train so it took me 1 hour longer than usual to get home. if you wake up in the morning, and think you may have a medical emergency..take a taxi to work. or better yet stay home. but please abstain from being on the train between 8am-9am and between 5pm-8pm. k? thx.
