it's funny how dependent we have become on mobile phones. we are so used to being in touch with people constantly that when service fails, it is infuriating. earlier today, one of my coworkers informed me that his cell phone wasnt working, in case clients called in looking for him. you would be amazed at how angry people were about the fact that he wasn't answering his phone. it was like his lack of cellular service was a personal affront to their natures. how dare he not be available at all times!? it was clear to them that if someone didn't answer their phonecall, it was DEFINITELY purposeful and mean to cause hysterics.

but it got me thinking about how i react when people don't answer their cell phones. i definitely take it more personally than i do when someone is simply not home. i expect that when i call someone's cell phone, there is no reason not to pick up ( i am not an idiot, i don't call people at 3AM or during the work day). if they DON'T pick up then i attribute this to the subtle art of screening. I am a screener, but I will not tolerate being a screened induvidual. maybe i am a hypocrite, but it's unavoidable.
