Not Without My Ring

So I had to face facts last night, when I was out to dinner with Adam and wildly gesticulating as I always do when I speak, and my ring almost flew off my finger: it was kind of too big.

Which is weird since I have been a size 8 on that hand for a long time. Man hands, whatup? So we took it back to the jewelers today and found out it was improperly sized the first time and instead of being 8 it was 8 1/4 which doesn't sound like a lot but it turns out it's the difference between your ring staying on your finger and your ring flying off when you start doing your NeNe "I don't keep up with the Joneses, I AM THE JONESES" impersonation. Not cool!

Our jeweler, however nice, tells me that the turn around time for having it sized (again!) will be two weeks to which I basically replied Oh Hell No. First of all Adam already sent it out to BE sized and waited the requisite two weeks, and they messed up. So I don't think I should have to go another two weeks for them to fix it. Furthermore, I am absurdly attached to this ring. I fully admit it. I love it and constantly look at it and I am such a cliche but whatever. So I basically laid it out for the jeweler and he agreed with me and long story short, I get it back on Saturday. PHEW!!!!

In other news my good friend Meaghan is in town this week from LA and we have been having a blast. Tuesday night we did Sushi at Fuji. Today we went to the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum which I LOVED and have never been to though I have lived here my whole life. Good god what a gorgeous place. It's like being in someones fabulous home who happens to have an unparallelled art collection. We dined in the Garnder cafe and enjoyed some white wine and quiche and then climbed to the third floor and worked our way down. Lots of gorgeous pieces and I think less uptight than your typical art museum. If you live around here and havent gone, please do. It's 2 blocks from the MFA.

When we were done with the Gardner, it was only 2PM so we decided to flee the city and head to Lincoln to check out the DeCordova Museum. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations but their sculpture garden was still open and we had a fabulous time meandering around the huge outdoor sculptures, exploring the art bedecked paths and enjoying the smashing weather.

It was a great way to spend the day. Really this is the way I envisioned always spending my Thursday days off but never actually do because there is never anyone around to do these things with.

I also have tomorrow off which brings with it some intense venue research (I will do a post of the contenders after I narrow it down but there are a few I am super into off the bat) and then Meaghan's send off soiree at Rocca.

I would love to know for you already weddeds out there how soon did you book a venue after you got engaged? I hope by asking constant questions I can make more charming the fact that I really have no idea what I'm doing. I do have a spreadsheet and a binder though!

Yay, engaged lady! I booked my venue about a year in advance, but then, I'm crazy. :) I was just concerned the place we loved would be taken on the day we wanted, ya know?

Also: if you want to dive headfirst into all of the good wedding blogs, let me know. I've been doing this for 8 months now! ;)

Can I have the good wedding blogs too???

I've been engaged since April, no venue yet, but we hope soon, for next July. I think a year in advance is pretty standard though...

I was only engaged for 4 months - so basically we booked about 3 months in advance. But our wedding kind of non-traditional...PLEASE let me help if you need/want it! It can be totally overwhelming at first, but so, so fun.

I had to drop off my engagement ring because one of the pave diamonds on the sides fell out 5 days before the wedding! I was without it for like 2 days (I waited till after the honeymoon to drop it off tho), but it was really difficult! I'm super attached to both of my rings!

When are you planning on getting married? I got engaged July 18, 2008, married July 3, 2009, and knew that I had to have a summer wedding because I'm a teacher. I booked the venue 2 weeks after getting engaged because I know stuff fills up FAST for summer! Even at almost a year ahead, a lot of venues did not have much available for the dates/times we wanted. I wound up finding the perfect place on the date we wanted, but I'd book ASAP if I were you!

Well we really want to have a fall wedding, when it's cool out and the leaves are all changing so we're looking at Mid-Late October of next year. I have been checking out potential places on line....i would really love for the ceremony to be outside! So I a place with a pretty outdoors is a must. I'm thinking if we can book a place by like end of October of this year, we will be in good shape!

We were engaged on May 10. We went to look at venues over Memorial Day Weekend and booked that next week. So we've had a venue now for 4 months but aren't getting married until Sept 2010. It's nice to just have that done.

Tip for the future: when getting rings sized, it's not necessary to go back to the original retailer (unless of course they're offering to do it for free, and you don't want to shell out the $40 or so for a sizing). The big box retailers contract out their work to local jewelers. If you go directly to a local jeweler, you can probably have it sized on the spot (while you look at all their unique, handmade sparkly creations). :)

We got married 6 months after getting engaged so we booked right away. But ours was for a post-nuptial since we got married in St. Crox. We went to the Bedford Village Inn (in NH) and they did an amazing job. I had an awesome band if you are looking for live music.

Make sure you like the indoor space just as much as you like the outdoor space. 50/50 chance it'll have to be inside and you don't want to be disappointed!

Once you pick the venue, everything else falls into place. We picked ours a few weeks after getting engaged. It's an October wedding and such a pretty space, so if you're interested in checking it out, let me know!!

Also, I've been unemployed all summer (and still am), so shoot me an email if you ever want to do something on a Thursday! :) And you should check out the Gardner After Hours one time. You'll love it!

I was engaged in November 2003 and had venues booked by April 2004 and wasn't getting married until November 2004. I found that having a year left me feeling totally relaxed through the process and enough time to do everything. But I planned it in about 5 months so I certainly could've been married sooner!

I had so much fun in Braintree, thanks for being my partner in crime!

No wedding advice, but as a girl that can work an armpit I'm sure you'll pull it together :)
