Masshole in Training

The time: 4:30PM, August 19th
The place: Fenno Street in Quincy

Witnessed: A little girl, probably around 11 or 12, riding her bike and TEXTING on her cell phone at the same time!

Remember the old anti-drug commercial "No one ever says, "I want to be a drug addict when I grow up"? Maybe they should release a safe driving ad that says "No one ever says, "I want to be a Masshole when I grow up".

As someone from the deep south, you'll have to explain that one to me :-D

Of course! Here in Massachusetts "Masshole" is a blanket term applied to anyone with Mass plates who drives like an idiot. Examples include: Driving way below the speed limit in the fast lane and refusing to move over, Speeding up to get in front of someone and then slowing way down, or, as this entry alludes to, driving while texting!

LOL - she sounds like one of my students, except I'm out in the 'burbs.

One of my eight year olds from my student teaching days was talking to me about a cell phone not that long ago.

Eight. Years. Old!

Yup, startin' 'em young!

Who gives their kids a cell phone anyways? I mean, I can see safety, but they have thoses ones with the programmable numbers where they can't dial or text.

The western burbs have WAY more than their fair share of Massholes. Read: everybody.

OMG. That's insane... I listened to a report on NPR the other day about the potential danger of texting while walking... but texting while riding a bike?! I don't know... that must triple the percentage.

How about "I don't want to be a paraplegic when I grow up"?

That is probably a better phrase to use!

Oh, the Masshole-ness extends clear up here. Anybody with a Mass plate warrants the comment, whether they've committed some traffic foul or not. Why? I'm not sure. But I think it may be because Mainers drive like grandmas.
