Drugstore Cowgirl

Is it time for another Drug Store Bargains list? I think it is. As we all start packing our bags for Weekend getaways and trips to the beach. What can you simply not to without? My Drugstore Must Buys so far for the season are a mix of old standbys and new loves.

I am a bit of a lip gloss aficionado and have tried pretty much everything from Dior to drugstore and I have to say NYC Kiss Gloss is repeatedly on my list of favorites. Shiny but not too sticky - it lasts for a good while especially considering you paid $1.99 for it. The Strawberry Banana flavor is my new fave for the season. Takes me back to my Bonne Bell days!

The problem with having viciously thick hair is that no product seems like enough product and then when you realize it IS enough product, it's too much product. You feel me? This is why Fructis Sleek and Shine is the new light of my life. 2-3 pumps and my hair is silky and soft, not greasy or brittle, AND it works equally as well if I put it on when my hair is wet or dry. The fact that it smells uh-mazing doesn't hurt, either.

My hands are in rough shape. Literally. The winter was not kind to my skin, so in addition to an arsenal of moisturizers I also keep a little tin of Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme in my handbag, at work, in my car for dry skin emergencies. A little dab rubbed into my nail bed is like an instant manicure and smells delicious to boot. Burts Bees, is there nothing you can't do?

I really detest being pale. I feel better about life when I am tan but I am not dumb enough to actually go tanning in the sun. No I get my color from a good old fashioned mist on tanning booth and then I maintain it with some sunless tanning creme. It sounds like a lot of work for a tan but isn't skin cancer even more work? I think so. I have tried a few different kinds of sunless tanning creams and I have to say L'oreal Sublime Glow wins me over every time. I love the color, not too orangey but a nice golden bronze with a tiny hint of shimmer. It doesn't smell as carroty and weird as other creams AND it's super easy to apply. Bronze it up!

Now on the tan tip, I also tend to wear less makeup in the late spring/ summer because it's hot and I can't be bothered. Just a little dab of shadow, some mascara and gloss and I am good to go and no eye shadow has been there for me through the years as much as Cover Girl Disco Ball. While in my early twenties I used to pack it on disco queen style, I find now that a light dab and some mascara really perks up my eyes makes me feel just a little more fabulous. A little bit of sparkle in your life never hurt, right?

So that's what I have so far in my list of Drug Store Essentials for the season. Let me know if you have any good ones for me because you know you can never buy too many things at CVS, am I right? One must earn their Extra Care Bucks!

Hmmm...I have to go to CVS this week to refill the ol' coumadin prescription. I will have to let you know what I pick up this time. Last time it was two bottls of Orly nail polish. Berry blast is an EXCELLENT summer pink.

LOVE that self-tanner lotion too. I agree the smell is *better* then most, but it still stinks by the end of the work-day (literally, for me at least).
I'll have to pick up the burts bees! Looks like a great purse standard!

Dude. Keep posting these drugstore beauty finds, I LOVE.

Also? Pantene Blonde Expressions make my hair so happy (though now I'll have to switch to Brunette), and Milani Runway Shadow palettes are awesome. Well, just the silvery smoky one - the only one I've tried!

Ooh those are great tips! Especially the hair one. I have crazy thick hair too and I totally know the "Oops I put too much on and now I look like I didn't even shower" thing.

Thanks!

Have you been looking in my CVS shopping basket? Lemon-butter cuticle cream smells so good I kind of want to eat it. And that little bulb of fro-taming goodness is definitely in my bathroom closet. Fructis also makes some cream in a tube that works wonders. What is it called? Anti-humidity styling cream, maybe?
