The Cublicle Aquarium

A few months ago at work, a bunch of us took a personality test for fun. It turned out that many of us are highly creative peeps. Now, in an average work day we don't necessarily get to use all of this creativity so when appropriate moments arise, we seek an outlet.

Namely, when a coworker goes on vacation.

This is the perfect opprtunity to mess with their cubicle. Now we have done the amateur stuff (wrapped every single thing in one person's cubicle in aluminum foil, another was blocked off with plastic wrap and filled to the brim with balloons) but this was a special case. A coworker, who happens to be a part time scuba instructor, was leaving for over a week to get married in the Carribean.

The wheels started turning the day after he left. My boss and another senior manager pulled me and a coworker aside and informed us that he would be out of the office for the rest of the month and no one had ever messed with his cubicle. The spark started and the flames of creativity were fanned as other coworkers got in on it and before you knew it, after a few stops at iParty and the fabric store and a few hours of work, the Cubicle Aquarium was born!

The view as you walk into the office.

The bride and groom (CPR dummies dressed in scuba gear and bride and groom accessories)

misc. 030
Please note the charming ball and chain tied to his leg

misc. 032
Coral made of foam core painted and cut out with an exacto knife.

misc. 033

Seaweed made of plastic leis cut in half and hung at strategic points.

misc. 034

misc. 027

Treasure chest made of WB Mason box covered in contact paper, accents with cut up file folders and an engagement ring inside (the receptionist's paperweight + cardboard circle covered in gold foil)

misc. 035

Spelled out "Just Married" in little rubber fish

misc. 037

And this isn't even the finished product - a few coworkers who live near the office are going in on Sunday to put the finishing touches on (namely, to dress the baby CPR dummy like a mermaid and hang the foam bubbles).

This is just one of the reasons I love my company. The whole work hard PLAY hard mentality is really taken to the next level and hell, any place where your boss mentions how great your christmas decorations were in your annual review is the place for me.

That is ah-mazing. Seriously, so fun! We do pranks at my office but nothing like that, I'm impressed and really going to have to step it up!

HOW FUN ARE YOU GUYS?!?!

We've done stuff like that on a MUCH smaller scale. Like, one person came back from vacation to find their office entirely covered from floor to ceiling - and everything in between - in flourscent sticky notes. I've gone in and turned everything in someone's office entirely upside down...monitors, bookcases (oh that's always fun), tables, etc...

When I came back from Tampa a few months back, I found not only everything in my office backwards - but a 2 foot high photo of my head photoshopped onto a paper doll's 70's miniskirt outfit - with a pair of Ugg Fluff Mommas on my feet. It was very funny.

But your office? AMAZING.

PS: Did you get my email response about the store? Lots of people are having issues receiving emails from me lataly - and I think it has to do with all the stupid email viruses going around.

I am humbled by your office's creativity. I've played pranks but that is amazing. We were going to do something to a friend's cubicle this week but I just couldn't find the time.
