Closet Case

I am aware of a only a very small section of my wardrobe.

If you are like me, then when an occasion arises like dinner out on the town, a party , or say, St Patrick’s Day – you start thinking about to wear probably the night before (if not a week before). I run through outfit options in my head, mentally pairing tops and bottoms with shoes and bags. Really it’s a pleasant daydream activity.

Except that I always forget about approximately 50-70% of my wardrobe.

For instance yesterday I remembered that today is St. Patrick’s Day and while I was out running errands, started thinking about what green I could wear. Do I even own a green shirt? I thought about it for a while and realized I really don’t and so I decided maybe to pick up a shamrock pin or something so I could still be festive (I love me a festive pin). Of course I forgot all about it until about 9PM last night. I went into my closet to see maybe if I still had those green shoes I bought a few years ago when lo! I own no less than FOUR green shirts. One of which I have worn as recently as last weekend.

And I know, my problem could be solved by just looking in my closet instead of trying to remember what I own but my closet is 1) small and 2)also used for storage of Rubbermaid Totes of my out of season clothes and various items that we need to store but don’t have room for. So a lot of my clothing that hangs in there is obscured and not easily seen without some serious rifling (and even then given my penchance for doubling up clothing on hangers, I miss a lot. And never is the statement “Out of sight out of mind” more true than when it comes to one’s wardrobe). Basically If I don’t see it, I may as well not own it.

Something must be done, if you ask me. And since space in my apartment negates the possibility the California Closet of my dreams - I am preparing for a major overhaul of my clothing storage space over the next month. I will post before and after pics once I get an idea of what I'm doing. Until then, I will satisfy myself with some good ol' fashioned closet p0rn.

I am calling California Closets as soon as we move into our new house. Our master closet is like a room - but it has one puny rack and the rest of it is destined for rubbermaid bins. I could probably do it myself if I really got motivated but I am no expert (and also, lazy).
