The Surge, Part Two

Today is judgement day!

Adam is scheduled for surgery today. We are checking him into the hospital later this morning and he is supposed to go under the knife at 1PM today. We hope.

It's still up in the air. His pre-op appointment yesterday went better than last week (when, you will recall they cancelled his surgery due to swelling/possible infection) but not as well as it could have gone. His surgeon was happy to see the swelling had gone down a lot but it is still more swollen than he would like. He told us that today's surgery has a 50% chance of being what we ultimately want, for the surgeon to be able to open up Adam's ankle/leg and put all the plates and screws up so he will be sent home this weekend with a much more manageable cast. But there is also a 50% chance that all he will do when Adam is under the anesthesia is readjust the external fixator, and realign the rods. In which case Adam will be sent home tonight and will have to wear the fixator, and be flat on his back moving his leg as little as possible, for another MONTH.

So obviously we are hoping for option number one.

I can't help but feel that Adam's surgeon doesn't WANT to get Adam out of the fixator becuase he so enjoys dealing with this break. His x-rays are an orthopedic surgeon's porn. You should see the way they all ooh and ahh over his explosion of an ankle, tibia and fibula.

Of course I am kidding, but he is a little too psyched about the nature of this fracture. If you are going to break your bone though, I suppose it should be as interesting as possible.

So everyone cross your fingers that Adam is NOT home tonight with that fuckingfixator and is instead sleeping in a hospital bed with a lovely cast on.

UPDATE #1: He went into surgery a little while ago and I won't hear anything for at least a few hours. A general aside to those in pre-op waiting rooms waiting to go in for surgery, particularly the crazed looking middle aged woman who sat next to Adam and I this morning. I know surgery is scary, but carrying ON and ON about how SCARED you are and how WHAT IF YOU DON'T MAKE IT and OH MY GOD I THINK I AM GOING TO DIE, particularly when there are other people who are quite visibly worse off than you also waiting for surgery, is uncouth. It's normal to be nervous but if you are going to be insane about it please do so in the hall. Thanks!

UPDATE #2: GREAT SUCCESS! His surgery went awesome, the surgeon said everything looked so much better than he thought it would that he took care of it all, plates, screws, splint, etc. NO MORE EXTERNAL FIXATOR!!! The surgeon told me he would be in the recovery room until 9 or so so I decided to kill some time where else? TJ Maxx. I perused the handbags, found this precious lime green Sigrid Olsen that was PERFECT but had a pen mark on it. Damn. Then found a really sweet cream colored Dooney...but the strap was broken. WTF. Then my phone rang and it was Adam's nurse in recovery who let me speak to him for a few minutes and he sounded super drugged but really happy. Yay my boo! We decided I would just go home since he wouldn't be able to have visitors much later tonight and his nurse assured me with all his drugs he would just sleep all night anyway (they have him on tons o' dilauded. yikes!). And because my boy always brings me luck, right after we got off the phone I randomly found a pair of super cute Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses mixed in with a pair of Ferres for $50!!!!!

This photo is terrible. They're very "Charlotte York walking down the street on the way to Brady's birthday party in that pink strapless dress" if you know what I mean. So I can finally retire my scratched Fendis. And THEN I found this fab-u-lous navy and white jersey wrap dress that is the EXACT same print as the vintage DvF "Twig" print dresses which I am kind of obsessed with (It wasn't a DvF of course, which is why it was only $25 but that doesn't make it any less cute.) And on top of that, I then found the same style Crate and Barrel wine glasses that I have been lusting after for a while now, that are $10 in the store, for $2.99 a pop!!

And truth be told I am drinking some pinot grigio out of one of those glasses as we speak. I feel like a weight has been lifted and I am so happy everything is finally working out with his ankle. It has definitely been a rough few weeks but he is on the mend and I am very grateful. Thanks everyone so much for the well wishes!!

give Adam a good luck hug for me. UGH. I HOPE that thing comes off. It gave me chills and a lovely wave of nausea just looking at it. :(

I hope everything goes well and that you are, indeed, left with the best option after surgery. Good luck!

Good luck chickie! Tell Adam to get better soon...for his sake as well as my own entirely selfish reasons. I don't know how we'll wheel a bed down the aisle next month! )o:

Good Luck to both of you. Flat on his back for a month (((shudder))). I keep my fingers crossed that option 1 prevails.

I'm so glad to hear his surgery went well. That's terrific!

Sigrid Olsen? Lime green? I think I saw that same bag at my TJ Maxx here last week. Only one (of course) and it had a stain. I hate that.

Fabulous news and I'm so glad that Adam is doing well! Now - let's talk about the TJ Maxx finds. SO CUTE! As for the chick in the hospital - some people in the waiting rooms need to be muzzled, imo - that chick was prime example.
