Tidbits

- Last night, as I was getting things ready before a few friends came over for wine and appetizers, I was singing in the kitchen. And not just any song, but "Mr. Sandman". And not just any part, but the "Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, Bum bum bum bum bum!". And maybe there was a little dance involved. And perhaps the using of a wine bottle as a mic. And of course then I realized that I never shut the back door and my across the hall neighbor was in the hallway, staring at me. I hope he enjoyed the show!

- Since they are doing construction in the parking lot of my office building, we are now allowed to park along the sidewalk since there are not enough spaces to accomodate everyone in the lot. As soon as this rule was made, an iron fence went up around the entire length of the sidewalk that surrounds the building blocking it off to pedestrians , effectively forcing you to walk on the street until you get to the entrance. I didn't realize why they did this until a friendly but bitter employee of the building landlord told me, it's so they don't have to shovel or de-ice the sidewalks. Nice, right?

- Last night I found out that the damage discount at Pier One is 40%! I fell in love with a sculpture and when I picked it up I noticed one of the parts was a little loose..you wouldn't even notice it unless you handled it and it was the only one left so I decided to buy it anyway and ask for the damage discount, which usually is 10%. So imagine my surprise at getting much more than that! It was totally worth it. I am not proud to admit I am on kind of a damage discount kick lately...even if there is a miniscule thread hanging off the inside of a new sweater I am all "Do you think I could get the damage discount". Hello world, meet my mother. I am her.

DAMAGE DISCOUNT???? Hmmmm... thanks for the tidbit. Re: the shovel/de-icing - I think a court might have issue with that in terms of liability if, god forbid, someone gets injured. I don't think the city will pay for it, hence they will go after the landlord's insurer.

Sorry - legal mind is working overtime... now back to the damage discount....

damage discount...that sounds like fun.

I still have never made it to a pier one store. I can see from the commercials that I am missing something truly amazing...maybe I should add that to my list fo things to do in 2007.

You know who doesn't do damage discounts? BCBG. They are so annoying, this sweater was pretty noticeably damaged (about 4 pulled threads) and I asked for a discount, which they refused to give me since the item was already on sale, and they told me they'd "Damage it out"...to me that sounds like their way of saying "Screw you, some other moron won't notice and will pay full price."

thats seems really snotty! so essentially they would rather throw something out than give someone a discount? that ain't right.
