I love red nail polish.

I really do. Some people love their french manicures and beiges. Others adore a punchy mauve or a deep chocolate brown. I am a deep-red nail girl. I love it. It evokes images 40s film stars and of Barbara Streisand in The Way We Were

or Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest. When she was shaking that pink dress, in her white face mask screaming "NO WIRE HANGERS!", I was thinking " My god I LOVE her nails!".

That may not do it for some people, but it does it for me.

Anyway my problem is that I can't find a red I love lately and it is becoming a sad affair. Everything seems to be too orangey, or too glittery, or too sheer or too BRIGHT. I just want one perfect shade of red.

OPI used to make a color called Chick Flick Cherry that was my FAVORITE. I wore it all the time. Then they changed the color, and renamed it Chick Flick Red and my life hasn't been the same since.

So what I need from you is the name of a perfect deep red, non glittery nail polish. Your go-to red, if you are into that kind of thing. My holiday manicure plans depend on it.

This is some serious business

If you are into OPI (and seriously, who isn't??), then you have probably already seen I'm Not Really A Waitress, which is tied for first as my new favorite red. The other half of that tie is Bogota Blackberry, but it might not be red enough for what you are looking for.

I was in the same place last summer looking for the perfect bright pink.

I'm Not Really A Waitress is pretty, but it's kind of iridescent which I don't really like. I want like a straight up deep red. blood red, if you will.

Sarah, I am a red girl this time of year myself. I like me a deep blue\red. I have a few OPI standbys:

OPI - Kennebunk-port, Edin Burgundy and Malaga Wine. Although they are not the newest colors, all three are nice deep shades of red.

how i wish i could help. i am partial to the blood red myself. i had my toes done before i went to vegas in august, and when i took the polish off, it had actually seeped into my toenails and tinted them pink! eek!

luckily by that time, it was already closed toe season. and now they're almost back to normal.

so if i remembered the name of that particular polish, i would *not* recommend it :)

It may even be TOO dark red, but I have yet another OPI suggestion for you. I suspect it might be "Lincoln Park After Dark" but I am not sure. I'll check the bottle when I get home and get back to you. It's vicious. It's a dark "I ain't messing around" type of red. I like it.

Hi there, I found your blog thru pink and green girl. I always stop by here and love your posts. Anwyay, had to comment on the red polish thing because I love the same - my suggestions are OPI Edin Burgundy and actually REvlon Valentine is a good one. Two coats of each and they're a good red - not to cherry (I'm not into 'sheer' reds). I have a few more favs but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head - Good Luck!

Lincoln Park After Dark is definitely the color you are talking about Nicky. I was just at Keldara on Friday and to kill time while we were drying (and while I was waiting on my ride) we were checking out the colors and I distinctly remember that one, exactly as you described it!

I like going to the OPI website and using the "try it on studio" when I want to look for a different color. They don't show up true (at least not on my monitor) but they have symbols to tell you which ones are sheer, and which ones shimmer.

thats awesome! i will check it out.

and i will check out that Cut a Bitch Red you and Nicky described.

We definitely need to petition for them to change the color name to "Cut a Bitch Red" because that makes me giggle like none other. Well, and because that's exactly what color it is.

I don't know if you guys in the US have a The Face Shop a store kinda like The Body Shop but korean, and they make a beautiful shade called Vampire Red, if you have it there you should try it because it's a beautiful kinda dark red.

i really love Revlon but everytime I go to CVS they are sold out of all the decent colors! If I wanted blue nails, however, I would be all set.

OPI Matadore Red or OPI Malaga Wine. Malaga is a little darker, sort of wintery. Matadore is the perfect cherry red...
also, great blog!

"Cut a Bitch Red" is PERFECT for that OPI color! LOL. It's the type of color that you should probably keep your nails short-ish for. Otherwise it looks downright scary. Let me know if you find it!

i'm going to sephora tonight, i will report back what i find for Awesome Reds.

I am SO jealous that you have a Sephora near you!!! Though, if there were one in NH, I'd be utterly broke by now.
