Yes, I am at work today.

Columbus day for some means a day off, not so much for me. It's a floating holiday around these parts and I almost always work on floating holidays because it gives me a glimpse of what my commute would look like if 70% of other people would stay the F home. It is glorious, let me tell you.

My weekend was equally glorious.

Friday night I went out for cheesecake and karaoke at Fox & Hound with my friend Andy. He gave me a belated houswarming gift that was probably the best gift ever. Last New Years Eve, during the day, we went antiquing in the Lower Mills/Milton area and this one store in particular had the CUTEST vintage barware. In particular a gorgeous martini carafe, glass and stirrer set that I fell in love with. So of course I was delighted when he presented me with this and instantly planned about 100 holiday cocktail parties so I could use it each and everytime. I know most people prefer their martinis shaken and not stirred, but you can fit about 5 more martinis in a carafe than you can in a shaker. It makes a lot more sense. I mean that's just science.

The karaoke at Fox & Hound was fantastic, as was the pineapple cheesecake, and around midnight we headed back to my apartment to watch Marnie because I could not stop talking about Diane Baker's bob in that movie ALL NIGHT. I mean Tippi Hedren and Sean Connery are all well and good but Diane Baker and her fabulous bob pretty much steal the show.

I am telling you, if I had straight hair I would wear it like this ALL THE TIME.

On Saturday, Adam and I headed up to New Hampshire to attend Opening Night of the Manchester Monarchs. The game was packed, and we had a marvelous time (mostly because the Verizon Wireless Arena sells wine now!). After the game, we went over to Cactus Jack's for espinaca and martinis and then retired to his parents' house where we spent the night. The next day we headed over to the Concord area, leaf peeping and mostly just driving around and taking in the gorgeous day.

I was sad to see the weekend end, but at least there was a Law and Order SVU maraton on when I came home! If that doesn't dull the pain of a Sunday night after a great weekend then I don't know what does!

Hey, that sounds like a really fun weekend... and yay for the martini set :)

P.S. The bob looks great - but as you know, you never have the hair that you wish for ;)

Happy Columbus Day [even though you're at work ;)].

i am working today too (as i am most holidays) and I alway say the only good thing about working on a holiday is the lack of traffic. if only it could be like this everyday!

oh my gosh how bizarre, i watched marnie this weekend too! though i'd never seen it before - gotta love comcast free movies on demand.

and i enjoyed the bob as well. i actually thought she (lill) was the most visually striking person in the film - which is a lot for a movie with tippi hedren and sean connery!
