If you live in the area, and are looking for something out of the ordinary to do in the evening, might I suggest Waterfire in Providence?

It's a seasonal scupture installation in Providence involving, well, fire and water.

From the website:

"WaterFire centers on a series of 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence. The string of fires illuminates nearly two-thirds of a mile of urban public spaces and parks, and residents and visitors gather to stroll along the river while listening to a memorable and eclectic selection of classical and world music that serves as a melodic accompaniment to the normal sounds of urban life. The fires are tended from sunset to past midnight by black-clad performers in boats who pass quietly before the flames. There are no admission charges to WaterFire. "

You can catch Waterfire this summer at sundown on July 29, August 12 and August 26 and every Saturday in September.

I went years ago and had a MARVELOUS time. It really is breathtaking. I am looking forward to going with Adam on the 12th.

Thanks for the info! The bf is always complaining that we should go out more but that he doesn't know what there is to do.

My wife and I flew to Providence one weekend for the hell of it a couple of years back and saw Waterfire. A suggestion: Get there when it starts, eat dinner, THEN go see it. Otherwise, you may not be able to get close enough to the water to see anything.

Yep. I attended Waterfire all thru RISD. It kinda got really crowded in later years. I miss it, though. I should totally take PJ.
