Valentine's Day is upon us.

Say what you want about the commercialization of it all, how it exists solely for the benefit of Hallmark shareholders and all that other cynical crap. I like any day that promotes the giving of flowers, and the going out for dinner. And not just for myself...I love seeing other people get flowers at work, and I love hearing about romantic dinners out and what place had the perfect lighting and who had the most amazing wine with dinner. I know these are things that can happen any day, not just on February 14th, but why not give into it and have a good time?

I always like to celebrate the day once with my girlfriends and once with my boy. Last night I had Jeannie and Diana over and we sipped delicious wine that Diana's father had made, and dined on chocolate dipped strawberries and maraschino cherries while we listened to the Standards and Showtunes channel on TV, and gossiped about boys, work and life.

And then tonight I will celebrate with my boy and we will go to our usual restaurant for dinner, followed by dessert and drinks at the Fox & Hound and it won't be that much different than other times we have done that for no reason, except that the wait for a table might be longer, but it will still be fun.

I use whatever excuse I can to justify a night out for dinner and drinks.

So thanks, Saint Valentine, for yet another excuse.

Clearly you work with classier people than I do. No one here will be talking about lighting or fine wine. They will just be busy making all the people who didn't get flowers feel like crap.
