This past Saturday was my sort of annual dress up festive Holiday Party. ( i say sort of annual because I don't have one every year...but have had at three of them since 2000).
Anyway, the day itself was a blur of decorating, picking up last minute food and beverage, cooking, moving furniture, etc. At 4PM Danny and Andy came over so that Danny could give me a fabuolous holiday updo for my fabulous holiday party. So for the next hour we sipped wine and watched music videos and had an all around great time gabbing and doing hair.
They left around 7 and I threw on my black and turquoise glittered organza party dress, set out my platters and awaited my guests.
They arrived in spurts at first and then a steady stream filed in, bringing wine and gifts and holiday cheer and we played christmas music and wined and dined and it was all in all a fabulous night. It was one of those times when you look around a crowded room and think to yourself "I love everyone here!". cheesy, but true. and all that wine didn't hurt the sentimentality either.
The party wined down around midnight, leaving Andy, Adam and I to watch the Ashley Judd "Tracking the Monster" Aids in Madagascar special that Andy had taped for me since we are obsessed with Ashley and her fabuolous fluent french speaking self.
The next day, I am not proud to announce I had the worst hangover of all time. I swear, as I get older, wine affects me in new and excruciating ways. I woke up around noon and could not even move my head because when I did it felt like my brain crashing into my skull. So i lay in bed and drank water and downed a total of 5 ibuprofin before finally at 3 i was able to get up without nearly passing out from pain. And you know this was not a Meg Ryan in "When a Man Loves a Woman" moment. I didn't have that much to drink the night before...no more than I usually would at a party. It's just that pinot noir packs a MEAN punch. i love it's grapey goodness but i HATE the firey vise-like grip of pain it unleashes on my brain the next day. I am afraid that I am off the red wine wagon for good now, except of course if I really need it.
So this weekend has officially set in stone my holiday mood. My apartment is covered in white christmas lights and tinsel and red bows, we are picking up our tree this week, and I finished the Christmas card last night.
Now i just have to start my shopping....but Danielle and I both took this Thursday off and plan to spend the day shopping/lunching in Boston so hopefully I can get it all done then and not have to STILL be shopping on Christmas Eve like i have done every year since college.

yay! I had so much fun!
I hit a wall when I turned 25 as far as drinking's concerned. I am a MESS now if I have even a couple of drinks. It sucks!
