one can't be negative all the time (however fun that may be), so today let's talk about our FAVORITE holiday songs. i have about a hundred...but if i had to narrow it down to my Top Five (in no particular order) i would have to say:
1) All I Want For Christmas is You - Mariah C.
2) The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
3) Oh Holy Night (especially the "fall on your knees" part! it always gives me the shiveries)
4) The Man With The Bag - Vonda Shepard (Andy introduced me to that awesomeness)
5)Winter Wonderland - Anne Murray (it reminds me of decorating the tree when i was little)
what about you? any absolute faves?
EDIT:
I also have to admit that i LOVE that weird dance-y song "Mary's Boy Child, Jesus Christ"...the one where they pronounce Christmas like "Creesmas" and Bethlehem like "Beethlehem". so awesome. so inexplicable.

There must be something wrong with me...but for some reason I really dig "Last Christmas" by Wham. Another good one is "Carol of The Bells" by the Trans Siberian Orchestra with Metallica and I'm not even a Metallica fan!
Baby, it's cold outside
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland

Elvis's "Blue Christmas"is my favorite. And I'll admit it - I also have a special place in my heart for the Chipmunks Christmas Song.
haha stephanie i have a special place in my heart for that song too! i love when they say "huuula hooop". :-) so cute.
Ok, so I love me some cheesy Christmas music. Mariah Carey's entire CD is awesome, and I love "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" by N'SYNC (I know, I know, that is so embarassing.)
But definitely, two of my all time favorites come from the Ally McBeal Christmas CD (A Very Ally Christmas!) - Vonda Shepard and Robert Downey Jr's duet singing "White Christmas" and Robert Downey Jr's cover of Joni Mitchell's "River". (Even though "River" is super depressing as far as Christmas songs go.)
jensen blue, i second your carol of the bells vote. i could listen to that version 12,000 times this month and not get sick of it!
I don't know what it's called, but it's one of the songs from the movie "White Christmas". It's from the scene in the train where they start singing "Snooow, snooow, snoooww! I wanna wash my hands, my face and hair in snoooowww..."
OK here's my top 5 Xmas songs.....
1.) the song by "The Waitresses" not sure of the name
2.)Carol of the Bells
3.)That 80's Synth Instrumental Xmas medley song
4.)damn.... I gues I can only think of my top 3... oh well...
O holy night is definitely up there, but it has to be sung but the right person.
And anything by Bing Crosby is good.
I especially like his duet with David Bowie for little drummer boy.
between the chipmunks and o holy night, I think we've about covered it! Although last year i got a "magic of the holidays" CD that has this twisted version of "i saw mommy kissing santa claus" where the little kid singing sounds more like a chain-smoking muppet... not a favorite, but worth mentioning nevertheless :)
Who is this exceedingly sophisticated and gentlemanly "Andy" you speak of? He seems like such a man of information. Would that he be handsome as well? -Mr. Butler
As the individual on whom the Grinch was based (although they did tone him down a bit to make him believable, and clearly that sugar coated ending bears no relation to me), I think you are missing some of the best Christmas music ever...
like...Green Christmas (Stan Freberg)
The Night Santa Went Crazy and Christmas at Ground Zero (both by Weird Al)
Stuff that would warm the cockles of my heart. If I knew what a cockle was. Or had a heart.
Let me encourage you in your negativeness. It is perfectly acceptable to be negative all the time. One day negativites shall rise up and drool on the world.
