two years ago yesterday, adam and i went on our first date.

well, technically it was our first date. i had met him a week earlier on November 1st at my friend Sarah's halloween party. my big pick up line was "so, are you voting for Howard Dean?" (you know me, whenever i attend a party i bring two things: a bottle of wine and my political agenda). and it turned out he WAS, which meant he was a democrat which meant i could, in fact, possibly hang out with him. we ended up talking all night and the next morning exchanged numbers. and so the following Tuesday, he came down to Boston (he was living in his home state of New Hampshire at the time) to attend a Rock the Vote rally with my friend Chris and I. we don't consider THAT our first date though, since there were other people around and whatnot.

so, our first date:

it was a friday night. he picked me up and was wearing a new cute outfit of tan pants, green v-beck sweater with white oxford underneath. i wore a black knee length skirt, black tank top with a black, lace jones new york blouse.

we were cute.

he took me to dinner on Beacon Hill in Boston at this romantic Italian restaurant called Antonio's. at the time that i met him, i was at a point in my life where i wasn't interested in a long term RELATIONSHIP. i was a "casual dater" and i had assumed that this would just be maybe another of my "casual dates". but he was so easy to talk to, and so attentive and so sweet...over dinner i began to think twice about my casual dating mantra.

after dinner we went next door to harvard gardens where we had martini after martini and talked all about our family, friends, past relationships (martinis always help along that kind of talk, don't they?).

after harvard gardens adam was nice enough to indluge my need to see my friend Jill who worked at the Blue Wave Bar in the seaport district so off we went and hung out with her and her boss for a little while and to have a few more cocktails

(jill and i used to talk a lot about not being able to find a guy who could "hang" meaning go out and drink as much as we did which sounds so bad now, but at the time it was important and adam proved that he could, indeed, "hang")

and then we decided that the night shouldn't end. so he took me back to NH with him and we listened to 80s mixes all the way up there, screaming the lyrics out of the window and i spent the night in his place (no, not like that! he gave me PJs to wear and we were good kids)

and at the beginning i had to keep reminding myself that i didn't want a serious relationship. and i kept telling him that. in fact after our 3rd or 4th date i broke up with him for about 3 hours because i didn't think i could handle what was happening, and how i felt.

but he was patient. he says he knew i would come around.

and of course i did. how could i not? the man is awesome!

and here we are two years later. and to celebrate last year he sent me the most gorgeous bouquet of fall flowers. and he took me to dinner at our favorite restaurant (Rock Bottom) and then to Fox * Hound for nightcaps and dessert, where a Dean Martin-esuq man was singing old standards and walking around the room with his mic.

all in all, a perfect night. just like 2 years ago.

so, happy anniversary boo! here's to you putting up with me for at least another two years ! :-)

I love it, Sarah. You guys are too cute.

And, you've given me some hope about my current dating adventures. Not wanting to commit immediately doesn't mean the person is evil, or bad, right?
