weekend recap:
Friday: The Wedding Pregame
as i mentioned earlier, i took friday off from work but that didn't mean i got to sleep in! i awoke at 8AM to get ready for the arrival of our dear friend and golden girl, Megs. i left my apartment at 9 to head into the city to pick up Jill so we could await Megs' arrival at the airport together. thank god she was with me because i do NOT understand the ins and outs of driving into Logan. every second i was like "wait this way?" or "wait, right? no? left?". i had no idea where i was going but Jill used to work at the airport and thus saved the day. after some texting and finagling, we FINALLY found our girl at the airport and had a mini reunion (I hadn't seen her since last Thanksgiving!). we headed back to my car, drove to a T station and took the train into Boston to do some shoe shopping.
never could i imagine something simple like finding red peep toe shoes without a 3 inch heel would be SO DIFFICULT.
we went everywhere in Downtown Crossing: DSW, Macy's, Filene's, Marshalls, TJ's. and nothing. no shoe even remotely appropriate for a wedding or for me. some things to know about me: i am too klutzy to wear super high heels, i am not going to prom nor am i going to be dancing with a pole, AND i believe there should be more of a happy medium between full on sandal and full on pump. the shoe people need to get hip to this.
anyway, Jill had to leave to go into work, so Meaghan and i met Jenny for lunch at Brandy Pete's and resumed our shopping frenzy until it became quite clear that it was a lost cause.
at least in Boston.
so we drove back to Braintree and hit the South Shore Plaza and AGAIN went to every shoe store known to man: Macys & Filenes (in case the suburban ones had more than the downtown versions), Lord and Taylor, Bakers, Nine West, The Maxx. even PAYLESS for god's sake. i was desperate. and yet the shoe gods did not hear my prayer.
at this point it is 5PM and we have been shopping since 11AM. we needed a break, so we paused for manicures and pedicures. and while there, i had an epiphany. I was listing to Megs all the shoes that i already owned and could possibly wear (i have already one pair of red slingback pumps and 4 pairs of brown ones...but i wanted something NEW and sparkly!). it was then that we had matching epiphanies: why not buy brooches to pin onto my red slingbacks? then we have red, we have glittery, we have NEW (kind of). so i went to H&M and brought two antiquey looking pearl and rhinestone brooches and later sewed/hot glued them onto my red shoes and they looked quite dashing if i do say so myself.
+ = brilliance
with the shoe problem solved, i dropped Megs off at her parents' house around 7 and then went home and essentially collapsed. i never knew i could actually get sick of shoe shopping...but it turns out that 8 hours is just about my threshold!
stay tuned for......Saturday: THE WEDDING
