isn't it weird how when you're having a bad day, one little act of kindness from a stranger can totally turn it all around?

today had been pretty miserable before lunch: first i broke a nail while de-icing my car, then my windsheild sprayers froze so i drove to work with a thick salt film over my windsheild that basically obscured all my vision of traffic, then once i got to work my phone would not stop ringing and there were four different projects sitting on my desk that had to be done "asap".

and you know days like this are the days where even though you are crazy busy, people keep asking you for help with other things, and unannounced sales people drop by just dying to tell you all about their new lines of copy machines when you would like to take the copy machine you have now and throw it at their heads.

you know what i mean.

so then i went to Mobil on my lunch break for my long over due state car inspection (mine expired in January, oops) and they tell me that the only way my car will pass is if they cut the broken passenger side mirror off, which will double the cost of replacing it. but i really need to have a valid inspection sticker on my car because i am tired of freaking out every time i pass a cop that he will pull me over and impound my vehicle. so i chalk it up to yet ANOTHER crappy thing that has happened to me today and give him the go ahead to cut the mirror off. then i take off to the nearest Dunks to wait the 20 minutes it takes to inspect.

when i come back, the mechanic asks me when i am going to have the mirrir fixed, because he really doesn't feel good about passing my car without the mirror. so i lie and tell him this weekend, when in reality i haven't made an appointment and i doubt there is one because there never is on saturday afternoons which is the only time i can go.

he looks doubtful, and goes back into the garage. and the cashier says to me "hey, if it fails then at least you don't have to pay for the inspection!"

wonderful.

so i wait about 10 more minutes, silently freaking out that not only did he cut the mirror off which will cost me now an extra $250 to replace but my car is going to FAIL the state inspection and it's only a 2004 and that isn't very fair i don't thin k.

so the mechanic finally drives my car out of the garage and i notice that 1) there is a red sticker on the windsheild which means it DID pass and 2) the passenger side window is not only NOT cut off, but has been reattached!!!!

so i ask him what happened and he said he felt bad about cutting off the mirror and decided to fix it the best he could himself...free of charge!

so now my car looks fabu AND is legal to drive.

i was so excited i went to that little cutsey craft store down the street and bought an overpriced lemon verbena air freshener for it.

and suddenly my day is a whole lot better!!

i don't know if you watched david letterman last night, but he started his monologue off the same way this entry started! he was talking about a woman in the audience who totally made his day and in fact "made me giddy with delight" it was so funny! anyway, i'm glad that your mirror is fixed and you have a new inspection sticker! Woohoo for legality!

I carried The Clutch to a private party at the Hotel Commonwealth and was complimented on it within seconds of walking in the room! I LOVE IT!! :-)
