i can't believe that thanksgiving is in 2 days. i love it!
i think thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. i love the christmas season..but the actual day is usually a let-down and/or guilt-invoking. i am not religious (i'm talking straight up heathen here, i wasn't even baptized) so the jesus factor was out for me.. and i never really believed in santa claus so christmas always seemed kind of ridiculous.. i mean, i got gifts but i couldnt understand WHY i was getting gifts. it's not like a birthday, where you're celebrating how fabulous you are... so i always felt guilty on christmas day. like i was getting gifts i didn't deserve...
then again, i was a serious child.. i used to worry about what would happen when the Perdue guy died.
anyway, i do love the trappings of christmas though: the trees, the lights, the music, the egg nog, shopping for gifts, christmas wrapping paper, caroling, decorations, wreaths, special holiday candles..etc.. i love all the commercial BS that people ususally hate about Christmas.
but my original point is that i love thanksgiving. it's the kickoff to the christmas day season. it is sandwiched between the lightest work day of the year and the busiest shopping day of the year...what is better? i mean it's a holiday expressly for being with family and friends and gorging yourself silly. this year adam and i are having dinner at my house, then heading to his parents' house in NH for dessert, then going to the annual deveau's apres-thanksgiving feast. their will be lots of turkey, lots of wine, lots of pie. mmm...
not to mention the fact that MEGS comes home on wednesday! our favorite LA Lady flies in Wednesday night and jill, andre and i will be there to greet her and then our family of Golden Girls will be complete. we've missed you rose nylund!!!
