i have bizzare luck when it comes to running into people i haven't seen in ages.
my normal morning routine includes a stop at the Newbury St dunkin donuts which is on my way to work from the Hines T stop. this morning i wasn't going to go, because i was running kind of late, but at the last minute i figured "why not?". so i ran in quickly to grab an iced coffee and as soon as i walked in i thought i saw this girl, Lea, who lived on my floor when i was at Umass Amherst. when i looked again, i realized it wasn't her - but a moment later i realized that the girl standing in front of me in line was my ROOMATE from amherst! it's like the Lea lookalike was prepping me for the shock of seeing my ex roomate who i haven't seen in 4 years and who is from Long Island! so weird!
i have always had weird coincidental run-ins. when i was in nyc for my school's music trip my senior year in high school: megs and i skipped out on the empire state building tour (we had both been to nyc many times) in favor of hitting the Bakers shoe sale across the street. our shopping excursion ended before the tour did, so we were stuck waiting by the buses for our friends to descend. suddenly: who walks by but chris who i went to kenya with who is from newton, ma! and don't even get me started on running into david k. in paris, where he was staying 3 blocks away from me!
as much as this is a great kind of luck, why can't i have similar luck with scratch tickets? i have never won more than $5 on a massachusetts scratch tick. and i play ALOT. I mean, I am no Delta Burke in Lifetime's "Going for Broke", but i like to try my luck. Maybe it's my technique...I use a penny and I hear you should use a quarter..maybe i will try that next time....
