reflections on a rainy wednesday train commute, on bastille day.

* sometimes i notice boring-looking girls on the train with gigantic engagement rings and i think to myself
1) who on earth would marry them?
but more importantly
2) why would a man who could afford a ring like that marry them?
and then i feel sort of bitter...

* why do certain young men insist on NOT holding onto a pole on the train. i was on a non-packed green line train, when a group of young men boarded at copley. although there were seats available and plenty of room to hold onto a support if you prefer to stand, they chose to convene in front of the doors, with no support, and instead bend and trip and shimmy around trying to keep their balance as the train lurched forward. i imagine that the idea of holding onto something for support was uncool...but isn't it way more uncool to fall on your face when the train stops suddenly?

* even though it shouldn't, it makes me really mad when someone asks me to "move down" so more people can fit on the train. when other people don't move down, i find it irritating..but when someone points out that i should be moving down, i feel guilty and of course that guilt manifests itself as blinding rage.

* does anyone else ever get the feeling that the people who have seats on the train feel superior to those who have to stand? i think it's true. one lady in particular who had a black suit and a pink crocodile handbag looked very supercillious as she watched me try to balance my coffee, book, bag and still grasp the pole for support. these seat people tend to look down on the stand people, i believe.

* i think that only during times of torrential rain or handicap is it appropriate to take the train from park street to boylston. its not like its a comfortable T ride, there are usually hundreds of people squished in which i hardly think would be worth the 1 minute it would save you in traveling time. i mean really. it's like the people who wait for 15 minutes to take the elevator up one flight.

so there you have it...a list of complaints and its only 9:20AM. stay tuned for more rants as my coffee wears off :-P
