Oh Michael Moore, what am i going to do with you?
I do not like you very much. I did for a brief moment, specifically the moment between my purchase of Stupid White Men and my actual reading of it. You fed into my hatred of republicans and my distrust of most politicians...but you fed into it with erroneous correlations and sweeping statements that had no factual backup. The only one i can recall outright is your claim that the BUsh administration gave $43 million to Afghanistan's Taliban government in 2001, as a reward for banning opium production when in reality that money actually paid for food and security programs run by the U.N and other non-governmental agencies. There are several websites devoted to your haphazard treatment of facts such as bowlingfortruth.com. But aside from the lack of journalistic integrity this shows, it also shows a disdain for your readers, who you would have founding their political beliefs on half truths and fabrications.
And then you went and made movies, so that people who were too lazy to read could gleam political ideals by sitting in a theater for 2 hours. Bowling for Columbine, in particular, was less of a documentary than a splicing of irrelevant things to form a coherent tie. For instance: the Heston speech that is shown to have taken place in Denver right after the tragedy, and that is spliced with images of the students fleeing the school, was actually given in Charlotte a year later.
But this is what you do, Mr. Moore. You present myriad of facts, misinterpretations, and paranoias and jumble them all together to form a Poltical Truth. So that people, mostly people in my generation, walk around thinking you are their idol. And they vote based on what you tell them. And they think your ideas are theirs.
And now you have gone and made this, which no doubt will be a giant success. and everyone will say "look! bush caused 9.11!" as they march off and vote for nader or whoever moore tells them to vote for. this places me in a tough situation, because i hate you, but you could potentially get your easily-swayed fans to vote Bush out of office. You might mobilize the masses with your Truths! so maybe you're really okay. maybe it's not so big a deal to make movies that sway people politically as long as it's the way that I want it. right? perhaps i am a snob to believe that our ideas about our country and our political opinions should be researched and read about and OWNED (by ourselves, and not by you mr.moore) and not repeated like a line from a movie.
if only you weren't so damn ugly.
