i had an epiphany the other day.

sneakers ARE comfortable.

i know most people go through life knowing this truth. but i am not one of those people. most people who know me are surprised to learn that i even own sneakers, so unlikely am i to wear a pair. i just need my feet to have some style, and to me sneakers lack in that department. when i wear sneakers out and about, i feel frumpy. and i hate with a capital H to feel frumpy.

and don't think Adam hasn't tried to break me of this uncomfortable habit. when we head out for a day of shopping, or to attend, say, a seafood festival in New Hampshire, the last question before we leave the house is always "are you SURE you are going to be comfortable in those shoes?" and my answer is invariable "YES shut up!". and then 4 hours later I am limping, complaining, bleeding from my toes and have to stop in some dive-y tourist trap and spend $35 on flip flops.

and yet i never learn my lesson.

you see i really would prefer to look great for 3 hours and then be in misery for a while than be "comfortable" the whole time i am out.
(it's like when i was in high school and my mom would always say to me before i go out "you can't go out like that, you'll FREEZE!" and i would say to her "the thought of how good i look will keep me warm, Mom".)

sick, right?

and then the other day, i wore open toed shoes to work and it was really a bit too cold for those kind of shenanigans so i rooted around in my trunk (my trunk = mary poppin's bag) and i found a pair of sneaks and a pair of red stiletto pumps (that i forgot i even had. score!). but since i was wearing a turquoise shirt i figured the bright red would have to be saved for another time since I do not live in the Southwest. so i changed into the sneaks so my feet wouldn't be freezing, so that i wouldn't have to assail Adam's ears with a litany of "I'm COLDs!" and "my FEET are FREEZING!" ('cause i promised i wouldn't!).

and as soon as i pulled out of the parking lot of work, i felt an immediate difference.

driving with sneakers on is SO COMFORTABLE. certainly more so than with stiletto mules.

imagine braking without your foot sliding out of your shoe!

imagine not having to drive with your left foot while you adgust the strap on your right foot!

imaging not getting blisters from stop & go traffic!!

it's magnificent.

now, this does not mean i am not a sneaker-convert. i have a long way to go. but i think keeping a pair of sneaks in the trunk on purpose might be the way to go for me.

and i can always change into pumps when i reach my destination

right?

All I have to say is ever since I moved I can not walk to and from the train in my fabulous shoes. So I have been reduced to feeling gross and frumpy in sneakers all the way to work where I quickly change into f-f-f-fabulous shoes IN THE ELEVATOR (so no one will witness my frumpiness).

At least I wore pink sneakers today to match my pink blazer. STYLIN'

I think it's amazing how easy it is to be stylish and comfortable at the same time. For the colder months, my favorite are low-heeled boots. This season they are more popular than ever, especially the tall flat boots (modeled after equestrian boots). They're warm, comfortable, and when paired with a cute skirt, they look great! This one by Aerosoles (only $55) from Shoebuy.com is really classy: http://www.shoebuy.com/sb/s.jsp?&Dept=AdultF&Req=ss&_P0=242&Page=1&Style=128344&Substyle=298346

I have also become a big fan of those little gel inserts they make for high heels shoes. I am in love with round-toe pumps and when I add a little gel thing in the front to support the ball of my boot, I'm good for the rest of the day.

PS: I like your blog so much that I added a link to it on the official Shoebuy.com weblog at http://theshoebuyblog.blogspot.com. Come by sometime and check it out!
