Adam and I are starting a new regime.

We have lived in our apartment for almost a year, and still haven't really tried any new restaurants/bars in the area. I grew up in Braintree (the next town over from Quincy, where we live now) so we mainly stick to the places that I have always gone to (Fuji, The Fours, Alba) with a few exceptions of Grumpy White's and Fox & Hound (only because they are on our street!).

So, i am not standing for this nonsense anymore. We are going to try out one new bar/restaurant a week in Quincy a week until we hit them all (or get too fat to leave the house)

Last night: we dined at Finian's on Hancock Street.

This restaurant is kind of a mainstay in Quincy so i was surprised I had never been there. It's definitely a "family" restaurant as evidenced by the 1,000,000 kids there. We were seated next to a huge party of parents + kids that initially turned me off....

It ended up not mattering though. The wine and beer selection was decent (and inexpensive! my glass of Berrenger's Pinot Grigio was only $4.75 and Adam's Sam Adams Summer Ale was $3.79). And speaking of inexpensive, they have a deal where Thursday thru Saturday nights, dinner for two is $16.99!. So i ordered the Shrimp Parmigiana and Adam got the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. The food came promptly (and was very tasty), and more importantly so did the liquor.

All in all, we had a great meal (with lots of leftovers!), lots of wine & beer for $40! where else can you do that??

So, i give two thumbs up for Finian's. it's not the fanciest place, and i wouldn't order a martini there, but the food is good, and a good deal. They also have a $7.99 Breakfast Buffet on the weekends that we plan on checking out soon!

and i admit, we did go to Fuji afterwards for an apres-dinner cocktail.

but hey, you need the familiar in your life too, right?

Next up? Kagawa: the "other" sushi bar

I love Finian's... my parents used to take us there for New Year's dinners, and when I stil lived in Braintree I would take friends there when they visited all the time. It's just a good ol' reliable... good service, good food every time without having to speand a ton of money. The new set up is really cute, too. It is definitely a top choice when I am in the Quinz. They have really good crab cakes and the martinis are good too. There is always a wait but it's worth it!

Keep me posted if you find anything good. I live in Quincy too and it seems there are more bars and restaurants than there are people. I like The Atlantic over on Washington (if they are still in business). Very clean and new place - just in a bad spot in town.
