this is quite a warm front we are experiencing in the Boston area lately.
it was a balmy 35 degreees this weekend, and I was so psyched about being able to walk to my car without my nostrils freezing together, that i drove around with my windows cracked AND didn't even wear a hat or gloves.
it was bliss.
i have this thing lately where i cannot sleep in later than 8AM. i usually wake up around 7/7:30 on the weekends and am WIDE AWAKE. so awake that i have to go do something. Adam loves this about me, because he in no way would rather lay in a warm, nice bed on a cold morning than go out and do something with me at 9AM.
riiiight.
so after i got up at 8AM and cleaned up my car, and after i had bothered Adam enough that he got up, and after we tried for an hour online to get Red Sox tickets, we decided to head out for some shopping before his family came over in the late afternoon.
our first stop was Tuesday Morning, in dedham, which if you have not been there you must go right away!! it's a designer home goods warehouse! we got a huge assortment of entirely random things like :a large handmade pot for our palm tree, Monroe; a queen sized satin sheet set; a rooster rug for the kitchen along with rooster pot holders and a rooster bucket (we like roosters!); several wooden hangers for the coat closet, various bath stuff.....and we didn't spend more than $50! it was amazing!
of course, after a high like that one cannot just quit..so we headed to Pier one and partook of their fabulous basket sale AND picked out the bedroom set that we are going to save for.
what can i say? i love me some wicker!
anyway, so his parents and brother and sister in law came down from New Hampshire and we all went out to dinner at Joe's American Bar and Grill. it was really nice to hang out with all of them again, and the endless glasses of white wine didn't hurt either ;-) i had the BEST crab cakes i have ever had in my life there, which is weird because i have had crab cakes at some pretty sea-food oriented places and i don't consider Joe's to be in that genre. It's possible that i have no idea what a good crab caks is, and like crappy ones, but regardless..they are good. and of COURSE it is always a good idea to hit the mall when you are tipsy..so we did that too.
Sunday was slightly more laid back. I got up at 8AM, which is late in my book. In the late morning i went with my mom to break in her new orange VW bug. it is very, very, very, very cute. I am not a gigantic fan of VWs, but these beetles are CUTE! it's like not even a real car..it seems much more like a toy! granted, it is a manual transmission and my mom still hasn't mastered this technique so we stalled out at every red light we hit. it was all good though. she did really well for her first day!
Sunday afternoon Adam and i hit up this Asian supermarket near our apartment. I had never been there before, and was surprised at how huge it was! They weren't kidding about it being an Asian supermarket either because i didn't know what about 80% of the things in there were. I did buy alot of fruit, including kiwis and pineapples, some spices and tea, and some fresh crab so i can make crab cakes tonight. i'm really excited about discovering this place because they have super fresh fish (as in,some of them are alive and the fish butcher cuts the head off in front of you) and i loooove seafood. also, it didn't hurt that there is a secret store in the back that sells all knockoff designer handbags, hats and scarfs! there was a gorgeous Dior clutch in there for $15!
the moral of the story is crab + dior = Kam Man marketplace.

I love me some Kam Man. I also love that it's in "Quintree". But I do not liek how it gets raided by the police every 3 months for selling illegal knock-offs. Peeps need a Licensee!-Andy butler
