I'm Curious...

When you're driving do you blast your AC while you have your windows down?

I was telling a friend I do this the other day and she said that it's a "New England thing" which may very well be true. So let's find out.

I will go first. Yes, I do. But you can't go by me because I am a bad kid and think that occasionally smoking a cigarette while driving is one of life's little pleasures.

My thing is more heat blasting with the windows down in the fall/winter/early spring.

I was totally just doing this on my lunch break. I'm excited I'm not the only one.

It must be a New England thing!

I definitely do that on really hot days, because I'd still really like to feel the wind- without getting way too hot. & I agree with theaterista too, I do it with the heat! Hmm. I think I'm wasting gas..

YES I didn't think of that but the heat thing definitely. We like to be warm AND have fresh air. Nothing wrong with that!

Nope, not a New England thing. I'm a born and raised Southerner, and before my AC quit working (sadly, because 100+ days in the humid South with no AC are rough!) I did this all the time. As for the heat on/windows open thing, I do that more at home.

But then, I am a bad kid too...

I do the same thing on nice days in Dallas! And I do the opposite in the winter.... windows down with the heat on.

No, ma'am. But I'm not from New England so you can't go by me either. I'm an either/or. If it's hot enough that the A/C is blasting I don't want the outside air touching me anyway. If it's nice enough for the windows to be down, then no A/C needed.

I've always done it, but then again, I'm from New England - can't wait to see what others say.

I do it more often than I should! (And I am from New England.) Sometimes fresh air is just not cool enough...especially when your car has been sitting in a parking lot all day.

Ok, I live in Florida, but am originally a New Englander, a Mainah...LOL

When I lived in Maine, it was very coomon to drive with the AC blastin', aimed at your feet until you were coming to a stop, then aim it at your face so you wouldn't sweat while stopped, but the windows were definitely rolled down.

In Florida, you HAVE to set the AC on high, all vents opened, and windows full closed unless a person in the car is smoking. If they are smoking, them and only them, will crack the window to let the smoke out. As soon as the cig is gone, the windows go back up, and everyone in the car does this check to make sure the windows are sealed up tight because it's 89degrees with a heat index of 104.

So yes, it is a New England thing. Hahahaha

I only do it for 5 minutes when I start up the car to let the super-hot interior car air out and to get the a/c going. After that, it's windows up!

Anonymous said...

Guilty...I blast it on hot days with the sunroof open...dumbass that I am...

Nope. Either AC or windows down, but not both. Unless I'm stoned and I forget the AC is on when I roll down the window to air out the car. I'm the baddest kid here, huh.

HAHA awesome.

i don't live in New England, but i drive with the windows down...because that IS my AC....

I drive a convertible and put the AC on ... that's got to be bad, right?

Yes I do, and I live in Canada. LOL. So it's a Canadian thing too! LOL.

I usually do it when it's really really hot outside and the interior is EXTREMELY hot. You're supposed to do that anyways to flush the heat out of the car.

However, sometimes I just do it so I can hear for sirens and stuff.

I drive with my windows down only until the AC kicks on and blows cold air at me.

Then the windows go up.

Yesterday morning, I did have the window down and the heat on, warming my toes, because in the 'burbs? 'Twas chilly!

*Says yet another New Englander*

Of course I do. Windows, a/c and the cig.

Let's also not forget a little something I like to call Mr. Steve Winwood.

haha E how could I ever forget?

I love fresh air, so prefer to have the windows down, but if it's too hot, I gotta rock the AC!

If it's hot enough that the A/C is blasting I can’t open the windows. My AC is not the best and it would get too warm again inside the car.
If it's nice enough for open windows, then I don’t need the A/C.
But the heat on/ open windows thing in autumn or winter is totally my thing. I need it warm, but I hate it when the air inside the car gets so “sticky”.
By the way: I am from Germany.

i'm not a big AC fan to begin with and i like "real air" through the windows when driving. without the AC. i'm pretty sensitive to AC air and get a cold easily for some reason from it, so... it's just not very common in germany [car and/or house] so i've never really missed it i guess.

is it nice to have AC in your car in the hot summer? yep. would i do both at the same time? probably not because i'm too cheap and the car uses more gas when you crank up the AC... :)

As a Florida native and now living in North Carolina, on hot days, I do this when first starting the car ... I drive a ways with the AC totally on high and the windows down to blow the heat out, and then close the windows, and it's nice and cold in the car.

I do it here in Virginia!

Lys said...

Yup - guilty as charged. However, I'm a reformed New Englander stuck in O-Town so eeehhh. I'd probably still do it when I move back up north too.

No, I don't, but I'm not a New Englander either. I don't really like the windows down at all--it's too noisy and it blows my hair around too much.

I'm from California and I use the a/c with the windows down - as does my dad who is from Ohio.

I love opening the sunroof, while blasting the A/C at the same time...does that count? I'm from SC, so it's too hot in the summer to be without A/C!
