Conversations in My Apartment

"What is your problem lately?"
"Haven't I done everything right? Don't you have everything you need!?"
"I've been through this before and if you do it to me again so help me god..."
"Whatever fine. DIE."

- Me, to my indoor herb garden (who has the GALL to look rather peaked and at death's door even though I followed the instructions of care explicitely!) this morning. WHY can't I keep a plant alive!!! Who do these green sons of b*tches think they are?

I feel your pain. I kill everything. Even plants that are supposed to be impossible to kill. Like cactus. Ugh.

Argh, How long did it last? I was thinking about getting one!

Well the first time I did it they grew about 1-2 inches and seemed to be doing really well and them suddenly all died. I have a new kit/pots now and the same thing seems to be going on although they are not dead yet - they are well on their way! I'm going to see what I can do to resurrect them this weekend!

Do you use plant food? Most of the soil in kit plants is just short of desert sand.

Maybe there's something in your water they don't like?

And this vaguely reminds me of the evenings I spend leaning close to the fish bowl and shouting (because apparently I think my fish is deaf) "HEY FISHY!! WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY ALL THE TIME?"

Might be because I'm always yelling at him.

John you may be right...the dirt I got with the kit is supposed to be "nutrient enriched" and whatnot but it doesn't look that great. I have 1/2 my seeds leftover so maybe i will cut my losses and plant those with some new + improved soil!

My roomie and I got a selection of grow-in-a-bag style kitchen herbs for Christmas. We followed the directions explicitly and they looked like they were doing fine but then the top of the soil developed a layer of mold and everything died (we only watered them once and even measured the correct amount per the package instructions). I'm wondering if we maybe have some air quality issues in our kitchen with the gas stove and all...

that happened to me with another plant (RIP) and it was a nitrate issue, as in I was feeding it too much. But if you guys were following the directions maybe it was shoddy soil to begin with? Hmmmm. It can't be us! There must be an explanation!

I am the grim reaper when it comes to plants and I finally rectified the problem when I caved and got one of the AeroGarden thingys - nothing died - totally the opposite - it flurished!!

I had to admit I don't have a green thumb at all - but thanks to modern technology I don't feel like such a plant murderer anymore.

I am Ms. Kill-a-plant too! I did that for years and years... made Home Depot wish they didn't offer the "exchange if it dies guarantee ". Then one day I was at my friends house. We were talking about it. She says almost everyone overwaters. Even the directions say to water too much. I thought she was just trying to make me feel better. Ever since then I water once every 2 weeks or so, and bam! All is well, plants everywhere. My bedroom, bathroom and kitchen! It still puzzles me, but it worked?

Come join me and make fake plants... we don't judge.
