"Twas The Day Before Thanksgiving

Ah Thanksgiving Eve – a time to sit at work and wait for the “We’re closing early email”. A time to enjoy a less congested commute (shout out to Maxwell House for paying for everyone’s toll on the Pike this morning and throwing in some free coffee). A time to scurry to the ghetto mart on your way home from work because you forgot butter and you need two and a half sticks of it for the stuffing you are making and there is no way in hell you are going to the supermarket. A time to try out some new recipes in preparation for tomorrow even though you are scared of celeriac and the idea of oysters in your stuffing makes you nauseous but your brother requested it and you are trying to be accommodating. A time to attend faux high school reunions tonight at the shittiest bar in your hometown.

Ah yes. How I do love Thanksgiving eve.

In any case for those interested in that kind of thing when I go home today I will be making this Cornbread Oyster Stuffing dish tomorrow. My brother requested some kind of oyster stuffing a few weeks ago when he helped my mom plan the menu (aka Peter's List of Thanksgiving Demands) and you know I love a challenge. I read extensively online about what works best, what kind of oysters to use, what kind of bread to use, what herbs are most complimentary and I think this is the best recipe I have found. We will see how it goes! I am also making Wayne's Cranberry Sauce (minus the raisins and with almonds instead of walnuts!) courtesy of my girl Paula Deen. I'm also putting together kind of a French take on the antipasto platter for Adam's family's get together (brie, goat cheese, cornichons, marinated olives) to snack on before the Main Event.

The plan tomorrow begins with a morning drive up to New Hampshire to have an early light Thanksgiving meal with Adam's family at his brother and sister in law's new house and then in mid afternoon to drive back to Boston for dinner with my parents and brother. I have never done two Thanksgivings in one day because usually we just do Thanksgiving at my parents' and Christmas at his parents but this year we decided to mix it up and do both, mostly as an excuse to see our fabulous niece and also to check out his brother's new place. I am looking forward to both.

So what are your plans? Making anything good?

Its going to be a very calm T-Day this year in OTown. I'm rebelling and refuse to make turkey. I haven't decided if I'm going to do steak or something more exotic. Plus, I have a huge trial starting on Monday so we'll be burning the midnight oil starting on Friday :::sigh::: Perhaps roast a turkey breast just for the leftovers??

I've done the two turkey day thing with my family since I was a child - and even when I flew up north it was lunch in W. Mass; Dinner in CT. Go figure. Exhausting I tell ya.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Ah, I'm cooking for just Sean & I tomorrow. Turkey breast, Stove Top, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, and good ol' punkin piiie. He's picking up something chocolatey and delicious as I write this. Yes!

Thanks for the comments re: the dress and shoes. Very helpful. :-)

I am waiting for the "lets close this popsicle stand" my boss always gives. He's tricky, sometimes 1pm and sometimes 4pm. The waiting kills me.

I am making spiral ham, deviled eggs and a banana cream cheese cake.
