Mozzarella's Revenge

We decided to celebrate our anniversary low-key style last night. I picked up a bunch of cheese along with a baguette, some crackers and wine from Marty's on my way home from work and we had ourselves a picnic in the living room. I will tell you: if there is somethiing better than smooth goat cheese spread on a fresh baguette I don't know what it is. Unless it's delicious manchego on garlic sesame crackers. Or maybe creamy brie on crispy mini toasts.

So needless to say we indulged and it was fabulous.

Until I woke up at 3AM and was violently ill for the rest of the night. Have you ever hung out in your bathroom in the wee small hours of the morning and prayed for the sweet release of death? I have. It's not as fun as it sounds. How could cheese do this to me? We are usually such good friends. It's so not fair.

So I dragged my sorry, pale, twitching self into work this morning acting mournful and lingering outside the ladies room door when around 10AM, just as mysteriously as the Dairy Vengeance had been visited on me it left without a hint of illness. I was totally fine. I was chipper. I was SPRY.

So I have to think about this. Was it all the cheese? I really sincerely hope not. When people tell me they don't like cheese I am all "Oh are you lactose intolerant?" and if they say no I am all "Uh, then what's the problem?". Because cheese is so awesome if you don't eat it there HAS to be a medical reason. Anything else boggles my mind.

So cheese, if that was you then I will forgive you this once. But you know the saying fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me?

Don't fool me twice please!

I must point out the irony of this post when compared with the title of your previous post.

I'm glad you are feeling better!

So sorry about your time in the bathroom.

I found your blog during the fall give away that Sharon was hosting and I like to read and visit all sort of blogs mainly about everyday things.

Stop on over and have cup of coffee over at my blog when you got a moment.

I am not a cheese eater - its because I can't stand the taste of any of the cheeses (minus mozzarella cooked WELL). The smell of most cooked cheeses turn my stomach... - I can't even do cream cheese!

As most people say, Yes, I am weird!

I most certainly have hung out in the bathroom in the wee small hours of the night, praying for death. My parents' bathroom to be exact. On Christmas Eve.

Did you know the Chinese think we are disgusting for eating cheese? Because it is rotted milk? I say, bring on the dairy.

Glad you are feeling better now!

Cheese can be like booze - don't mix...

Oh no! It reminds me of that scene in French Kiss where Meg Ryan is eating all the cheese on the train, then, uh oh! I hope you're feeling better.

As someone who's lactose-intolerant (Mom is too) and LOVES dairy... you're probably okay, but if it happens with a variety of dairy products (excluding hard cheeses and yogurt), you might want to talk to your doc. Generally when you are LI it comes on gradually and increasingly. So maybe you just had some bad cheese :)

I'm not lactose intolerant but have done this to myself with too much cheese or too much ice cream before. I think a lot can be too much for anyone sometimes. I wouldn't panic yet and decide that cheese couldn't be your friend anymore.

I'm Lactose Intolerant and I agree with Hello Darling, if it happens with all sorts of dairy products, then I'd say you probably are. Some people are just sensitive to specific types of cheese (like really creamy, really delicious ones). It could have just been too much, or bad cheese. Being Lactose Intolerant and loving cheese sucks. big time. cheese is sooooo goood.

I couldn't even begin to imagine life without cheese. I sure hope it was just something odd with one of them that set you off.

But yeah, goat cheese totally rocks!
