The Monet Shot

Intruders punch hole in Le Pont d'Argenteuil

"FRANCE should impose tougher penalties on art vandals, Culture Minister Christine Albanel said yesterday, after intruders broke into a Paris museum and punched a hole in a painting by Impressionist master Claude Monet." - from the article

Can you imagine? Hey guys! Lets get wasted and then break into the MFA and punch a Renoir!

Seriously? What goes through people's heads (even if they are drunk)

I know!!! Ryan and I were MORTIFIED. Especially me -
since I've been to the Musee d'Orsay and have seen this painting.(I studied abroad junior year - Impressionism and Post-Impressionism then a printmaking class). The part about this story that kills me is how they tried to get into multiple doors before they found one in the back they could break into. That's determination. It's one thing to hate impressionism, it's another thing to HATE impressionism. Like, "This Monet deserves a punch in the face!" Oy.

I know! I have been to the D'Orsay too but never felt the need to get violent with a painting. Then again I do love Monet.

Contrastingly and yet similarly, did you hear about this asshole who kissed a Twombley

I totally heard about that lady! What the hell is wrong with people??? And I don't understand how art restorers can fix a hole in a painting, or remove hundreds of years of dirt from a Michaelangelo, but they can't figure out how to remove Revlon lipstick from an all-white canvas. (Do they not have Sephoras in France? A little makeup-remover would do the trick, I should think.) I guess my clothes have no hope! LOL.

People never cease to amaze me! I thought the story about the woman who kissed the all-white painting was pretty funny though. Not because she destroyed a work of art, but... picturing this little lip print on it made me giggle :)

i thought that too but then i saw this "reproduction" of the kiss they showed in court and i was like HOLY CRAP

Thanks for that link - I hadn't seen the damage. All I have to say is - that's not "a kiss"!!! That's getting full-on makey-outy with a painting! I was picturing a dainty lipstick kiss (like you'd plant on a note to your lovah!) That is nothing short of total vandalism.

But Nicky it was an ACT OF LOVE!

:-P

I say... Off with their heads!

If that was an act of love, I hate to see how that lady interacts with her pets! :oP

Hey Sarah, on a completely unrelated note, I gave the sarcastic thumbs up this AM on the way to work, and it felt GREAT. It's my new favorite thing to do. Loved that post.

That makes me really psyched! I'm glad the gospel of the sarcastic thumbs up is spreading!

no you know what was an "act of love" sarah? us standing no more than 4 inches away from a monet saying "I see a bristle!" "claude was one hottie."
