I'll Be Your Girl For All Seasons
Hey August, how did you get here so fast?
Not that I am complaining. August means the summer is almost over I am one of the small number of people in New England who hate the summer. I do! I hate being hot. I hate what the humidity does to my hair. I hate how steaming my kitchen gets when I cook. I hate melting at parties of acquaintances and friends and family who don't have AC (my own parents included). Hate hate hate.
Maybe I shouldn't say hate. I will say I like summer the least though.
Now that the fall lines are out, my fall-crazed friends have been piping up. I can't wait for sweater weather! I can't wait for Halloween! I can't wait to go apple picking!
These are my kinds of people.
Now allow me to generalize
I have learned something about my Summer loving people. For one thing, nearly all of them have straight hair. For another, most of them are pretty thin. I am not the type who can go trolling about town in a bikini top and shorts, maybe if I could I would enjoy the heat more although this would still do nothing to change the epic proportions of my hair in the humidity. I do enjoy mojitos though, which are best enjoyed in warm weather. So Summer has that going for it.
As for the people who love Fall. We love the fall fashions, that allow one to erase from their mind the horrific memory of short shorts and ill fitting tube tops. We also may have difficult hair since Fall is basically one long season of awesome hair days for those with curly or super thick and/or unruly 'dos and who wouldn't love that? Throw in Halloween, Thanksgiving and gorgeous foliage and you have yourself the perfect season.
Now for Winter. With the exception of the days around Christmas, I don't think anyone really LOVES Winter except for skiers/snow boarders/etc although I do think that sullen folks like the winter a little at least because it gives them an excuse to blame their bad mood on something other than the fact that they skipped a Paxil dose. And however pretty the snow is, and however cute it is to be snowed in at home sipping soup and watching a Law and Order marathon, by early March I think we are all quite over it.
Which brings me to Spring. I never understood the people who LOVE SPRING so much. Have you seen Spring in new England? It rains almost the whole time. Or at least for most of April (if it isn't still snowing) and all of May. I think Spring's name should be changed to Thank F*ck Winter Is Over because that is really what people are so psyched about.
So I welcome August with open arms and will greatly enjoy the quick slide into September and the better hair days it will bring. Not to mention the recirculation of close toed shoes into my shoewear repertoire.
(I just tried so hard to find a picture of the girls performing Girl For All Seasons in Grease 2 but it was nowhere to be found. Curses!)

Haha. I'm a fall girl through and through. Sweaters, good hair days, college football, pumpkin picking - all of it.
LOVE the part about the summer lovers being straight haired and thin. Given that, it should come as no surprise that I am a fellow summer hater. However, one thing that summer has going for it is being able to throw on a cotton skirt and tshirt and be good to go. That part I do love.
While I LOVE flip flops and have straight hair, I am also not a fan of summer (mainly because I, too, am not so thin and cannot stand being hot). Fall is definitely my favorite season - for pretty much every reason you mentioned.
Bring it on. :)
Happy Friday!
I'm a fall girl as well. The weather is perfect- not too hot, but not freezing usually.
I hate summer unless I am inside enjoying the AC. I hate humidity, and it seems to be humid constantly here (I live in CT). Winter sucks the most tho, I agree that after Christmas/New Years time it's no fun anymore and I am done with it.
I am a fall girl too! Nothing makes me happier than spending a day apple picking and leaf-peeping, and doing other steriotypically New England things. Winter is my most hated season, but summer is following in a close second at the moment. Spring is ok, except my allergies are ferocious and I spend most of it fighting alternating sinus infections and colds. Is there a place on the planet we can move where it's fall all the time? LOL.
The only redeeming thing about summer is that I haven't worn closed-toed shoes in months. My feet appreciate being left to run free.
I always feel bad complaining about winter and/or summer because I can't really stand either of them and I'm sure it's taxing for Man to have a wife who bitches non-stop for nine months of the year (Because, let's face it, there really is no spring in Maine. One day you have six inches of snow and the next day you wake up and it's 90.). But honestly, why can't it just be fall all year round? (I understand scientifically why it can't be fall all year round. You know what I mean.)
i agree with this entire post. thank you.
there's another really awesome thing that happens in fall. my birthday! sweet. this fall you have some plans, chris will be flying in from LA and you and adam are definitely going to hang with him.
I'm with you on fall chica. Fall clothes are way cuter than any other season, you get to wear boots, and then there's football season. LOVE FALL!
But I'm a winter girl too. I love snow and big fluffy hats and being just chilled....love it. LOL
I swear, Fall is the best season around. The rich jewel tones, the herringbone & tweed fashions, the fabulous hair, the smokey makeup with the fashion. (Yes I know - I'm a sucker for fall fashion). However, one plus - we can wear peeptoes in fall down here too :)
In Orlando, the humidity is horrid - horrid - horrid! So I welcome fall. I just wish we had foliage changing down here - guess this means a trip up north.
Sarah, what a lovely tribute to my favorite season!
I'm representin' the summa-lovas. Although my hair is not naturally straight (without a blow drier and straightening iron) and I would not necessarily consider myself "thin." Summer, heat, sweating, beaches, flip-flops, tank-tops, sun dresses. I live for it all and soak it up as much as I can the short time that it's around. I was born in the wrong area of the country, as New England was made for Autumn lovers!

I am one of those sick people who loves all seasons, especially the extremes. The blistering heat and humidity of summer - love it; snow drifts in the winter, bring it on. Obviously, fall is perfect - the only thing I like about spring is everythng blooming, yada yada but I realize my affinity for the grossest part of the seasons is weird.
I too enjoy a good sweater day, but I also favor those "snow days" since I'm a teacher.
I used to enjoy spring until my allergies started about 6 years ago. I also used to love summer, when I lifeguarded and got tan, but now for some reason I don't tan well and I am miserable in the heat!
Here in Maryland, our seasons are just long enough - when you get tired of one, the next one is beginning!!!
I think spring is most enjoyed by people in the south- for us it just rains all winter. Gray skies, rain, and sort of but not really cold weather.
Farrell and I always joke, though, that summer is a rude awakening once you get out of school. No more fun at the pool and no one knows what to wear to work. Professional warm weather attire is so tricky.
Loved your post....I am a fall girl myself!!!
Bring it on...the quicker, the happier I will be!!
Something about fall is just so refreshing and invigorating!
Lisa :O)
I have to say that I am so glad you are still blogging regularly. I used to read a couple years ago, and found myself MIA from the blogging world altogether one day. But I'm back, and stoked to see you still here!
Anyway, I must admit that I have absolutely no experience with the extreme changing of the seasons. I live here, and it is seriously the most temperate climate you can imagine. Which is awesome, except I've never gotten to experience the snow, the (continuous) rain, the sudden hike to 90 degrees, etc. I do live one minute from the beach, though, so that's cool. :)
I'm with you! I LOVE the fall...it is definitely my favorite season.
I always say I don't like summer, but when it finally comes around I'm excited...but I always look forward to the end when fall is just around the corner!
I LOVE summertime! I also enjoy spring and fall, although there is something so very melancholy about fall... Winter is heinous.
I am a southern midwest gal and enjoy reading several "New England" blogs. I have been surprised to learn that apparently there are many New Englanders without air conditioning?! NOBODY I know here is without AC--it's unheard of! Horrors!
I guess I "fall" into the same catagory as most everyone else and I am a Fall girl too. I love the leaves and the fact that the temps aren't too cold or too hot. I have thick hair and the humidity just dows a number on it in the Summer. It is a more polished me in the Fall. Having gone to a college that has football as a main attraction in the Fall I am so into Fall.
I'm a fall girl too. Just bought the staples of my fall make-up today, and I am picking out all the clothing I want too.
hahaha, when I saw your title I laughed out loud. I loved that movie, as corny as it was. :)
I'm most definitely an autumn kind of girl. I love the smells, the foods, the festivties...summer, while I really enjoy it - can be hot, sweaty, uncomfortable - and what really blows is that you have to work when its beautiful out.
Winter is probably a close second because I'm all about coziness and comfort foods...and fire places.
And I do like Spring at first...but then the rain brings me down a bit. I'm most definitely an autumn chick.
It's all about fall - the hoodie season.
I loathe summer! I could skip right over it. Of course I have huge, thick curly hair and I'm a fatty. Fatties as a rule aren't big summer fans.
I love fall. Fall is the season all of my gorgeous sweaters I purchased on the Aran Islands come out. I even like winter when the roads aren't covered with ice and snow.
Spring in Upstate NY is a joke much like I believe it is in New England. Rain, cold, rain. Awful.
