Blonde Ambition
In my very early twenties, otherwise known as The Pleather Era, I got this brilliant idea that I should dye my hair blonde. At this point in my life, I was still a college student who would rather spend my part-time job money on hot pants at Deb than on things like Going To The Salon. So my friend Jill and I did the next best thing (kind of) and bought some hair bleaching kits from CVS, some clairol bottle blonde hair dye and went to town on our locks one afternoon.
(Isn't it amazing how something that sounds like not such a good idea when you are alone suddenly sounds like a GREAT IDEA when one of your girlfriends agrees to do it with you?)
The thing is, it's very hard to get your hair actually BLONDE under these circumstances. So we settled for vaguely orange and felt like we were Divas with a capital D for a month or so before we realized we were a lot closer to Trashy with a capital T. So off to the CVS we went to get back to our roots and thus begins another saga referred to fondly as That Time I accidentally died my Hair Bozo Red and No Salon Would Fix Me for Fear of my Hair Falling Out and Eventually One Stylist Took Pity on My And Dyed My Hair Black.
As you can imagine, since then I have not tried to drastically change my hair color at home, and I have not tried to be any blonder than I should be.
But I have been getting restless.
So at the salon this past weekend, when I went in to get my highlights touched up and Katie asked me "Do you want to go a little blonder?", I found myself nodding. And when she affirmed my decision "That will be SO FUN!" I decided what the hell.
So about two and a half hours and several highlights later, I walked jauntily out of the salon with a lighter head of hair (not TOO light but about as light enough as I can get away with)
I have conquered my blonde hair demons and know that I can be a blonde without being trashy.
Okay, maybe just a little trashy. But that's more me than the hair.

very cute. the cut is nice, too! i am actually planning on cutting all my hair off this week - DC in august, i am not playing around any more! - but i still need to make an appt.

Too cute! Way to go!!!
Wow. Those are some fabulous highlights. I might have to get the info for that stylist. Mine has been getting lazy.
thanks so much ladies!!
Oh and Sarah, Her name is Katie, she works at Andy's salon and she is fantastic!
The color and the cut looks great. I just went in and asked for a bunch of blonde highlights myself...but do you find that there are always people who say to you..."oh, but your red hair is so pretty, why would you want to ruin it?" Uh...thanks, I thought it looked pretty good. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!! Many people think it's a sin to change your hair if it's red!!
Amy your hair IS a gorgeous color but I can relate: I get that a lot when I go in for a blow out. The whole "A lot of people would KILL for curly hair why do you want to flatten it out" and I have to get in the whole The Grass is Always Greener discussion!
I LOVE it!! Looks very summery and fun. And I know you can wear it well...no "trashy" about it, chica. ;o)
Love the hair!
I once accidentally gave myself bozo-red hair as well. My mom had to dye it black and it looked maroon for awhile ahhaha
I think your hair looks great! The color is beautiful.I live in Quincy to (I currently go to a salon in Marina Bay which I love)but your salon may be worth checking out! Jenny
Your color looks good. I am naturally blondish and I had the great idea of dorm-room dying my hair brown. Like you, my friend did it too and we thought we were the cutest brown-haired girls ever. The Minute Maid orange juice boxes mixed with warm vodka helped us believe in our beauty. Ah college.
ha!! we liked warm cheap vodka poured into cans of diet coke.
It looks beautiful. Of course I'm biased about blonde hair. I have been a blonde my entire life and I think everyone should be blonde. lol. I went thru a period in high school/freshman year of college where I was dying my hair platnium blonde (I wish someone had an intervention for me).
The highlights look fantastic! And now I'm humming Girls Just Wanna Have Fun to myself. :)
Your highlights look fabulous!
I wish I could afford to have my hair blown out once (okay, twice!) a week EVERY WEEK.
