Goodbye, My Friend
All good relationships must come to an end. No matter how much fun you have, situations change and people (whether they want to or not) have to move on.
That doesn't make it any easier though.
You see, my office is moving this Friday.
As of next week I will no longer work in Auburndale but in Nonantum (man, I love Newtonian names). Basically instead of being on the Newton/Waltham line I will be on the Newton/Watertown line. There is a lot to be excited about our new location: it is quite close to Marty's (my favorite liquor/gourmet foods store) and Russo's (my favorite indoor farmer's market) not to mention right off a main street that is chock full of new bars and restaurants to explore, a Dunkin Donuts AND did I mention it is two exits closer to my apartment than our current place?
That is not bad at all.
But I will be leaving behind an old friend. A friend who has been there for me since I first started working in this area in 2004 - when I had only been to Newton a handful of times and didn't know anything about Waltham. A friend who quickly became a favorite as I got to know the area.
I speak, of course, of Moody Street.
For those not familiar with the Waltham area, Moody Street is a cultural smorgasbord of a main street. There is a microbrewery, a few Mexican restaurants, incredible tapas, Thai food, a few Indian restaurants, sushi places, BBQ places, cafes, dive bars, upscale fabulous restaurants and take out joints. Over the past few years I have worked in this area I have been to probably every restaurant and bar on the street, many more than once. There is always something to suit any mood - whether you want a fancy glittering night out or a quiet drink in a dark bar. And if you get bored in one place there are dozens of others within walking distance.
So Moody, thanks for all the after work shenanigans and extra long lunches. Thanks for the cheap drinks at The Skellig and pricey (but delicious) martinis at Biagio. Thanks for the crab cake sandwich they serve at Watch City in the Spring and the bison burgers at Bison County . I hope that after I move we still see each other and I will visit whenever I can.
(cue the Kenny Rogers song "Through the Years")
And don't worry, Watertown Street will never have the same place in my heart that you do!

Having gone to college in Waltham, I know Moody Street well and do miss it! It's where I learned to adore Indian food.
haha you are too cute. I never did make it to Moody street when we were living in H2Otown and that makes me sad inside myself.
Ahhhh parting is such sweet sorrow......
Krista you will have to tell me about any fun Watertown spots i should check out.
Well I would but since we were on the bus line to Harvard Sq we were obsessed. I also spent a lot of time on Rt 1. Matt was obsessed with that freekin Kowloon.
Not Your Average Joe's was a block away, so there was a lot of that, I loved the drinks and it was always hopping, which I find funny because the one in Methuen is always DEAD.
We forever joked about going to Wild Willys but never made it, Stillina I heard was great and looked so romantic but again we could not stay away form Boarder Cafe even though you get massive boarder burps.
Wow, that is so pathetic, I lived in Watertown for eight months!
stellina is supposed to be wonderful and have a great wine list. its a tad pricey though.
Whenever I think of Watertown, I think of the time that I borrowed my friend's car and someone drove straight into me (right at that roundabout that leads to the highway?) Anyway, hopefully, Watertown treats you better than it did me. :)
that area is really tricky! the first few times i went through i felt like Dion in the movie Clueless when she gets on the freeway by accident. Very Scary!
Oh, you girls are too cute! I'm sure Moody will miss you too. I don't know about the Wild Willy's in Watertown but I've been to the one in York a bunch of times and it's outstandingly good. Seriously. Go for the Annie Oakley burger and a lime rickey. :)
Um, and - might I add you are living SO FLIPPING CLOSE to my ultimate boyfriend, Jason Varitek?
He's a Waban-ian. :)
We have the worse timing ever. ;) My office is on Watertown St., but I'm leaving the company in about 6 weeks!
Email me, though, and we'll see if we can plan a two-martini lunch before that happens. :)
