Manicures and Monsoons
After the extreme ridiculousness of Friday night, the rest of the weekend went smoothly.
Saturday I spend a few hours at Andy's salon getting a much needed manicure and pedicure (Ballet Slippers for the fingers, Cajun Shrimp for the toes). Adam was awesome enough to drive me in that way I wouldn't end up bald as a result of tearing my hair out looking for parking on Newbury Street. So he went and had a beer at one of his fave bars and then came and picked me up after my appointment and we went for lunch. Then, there was an insane rainstorm which was so intense we had to pull over on the side of the road and wait it out (which actually worked for me since my car was absolutely coated with pollen. Them's the breaks when you have a black car though: when they are clean they look SO CLEAN but when they are even a little dirty they look absolutely filthy), on our way to our lovely friends The Cappellas home where we spent the evening watching the game and eating some incredible grilled pork chops and pineapple. If you have never had grilled pineapple, I highly reccomend it. Delicious!
Sunday my mother came by to drop off my dad's car, which Adam will be driving for the next month or so until he is able to drive his car again (his broken ankle makes it impossible to use the clutch on his standard). So my dad will be driving Adam's Corolla and Adam gets his Maxima, which mind you I have NEVER been allowed to drive. Hmph.
Our big excitement this week is buying a new mattress. You know the current state of your bed is bad when, after a weekend in a hotel, you realize that your hips and back don't HAVE to ache after a night's sleep. Well maybe when you're 80 but at 27 years old I am not ready to resign myself to a life of Ben Gay and heating pads. Luckily, Buhnie and Phyl are having a seemingly great mattress sale through tonight so we will be checking that out after work.
Hopefully you're weekend was a little more exciting than mine!
Finally, I am trying to come up with a fun easy to make cocktail that involves cucumber and/or basil. If you know of anything, please let me know!

It's amazing the difference a good new mattress can make. Hope you find what you're looking for.

i have never had a pedicure in my life. my first manicure i actually had in nashville (yehaw) last november while waiting for the guys to get over their hangover so we could go do something. and that was a horrible experience. that asian chick made me pay beforehand (i guess because afterwards you can't get into your wallet for a while?) and apparently i didn't tip enough (hey, i'm german, we don't really tip that much here...) or something and my nails looked HORRIBLE. seriously. so i told myself i'd rather spend the 25$ (or what it was) on something else and just do my nails myself. but a pedicure actually sounds really great. i think i'm gonna make an appointment now that summer's coming. i'm 30 so it's about time i guess... :)
Its amazing what a new mattress can do to one's energy in the morning.
As for drinks with basil - here's one that I am planning on trying - Add some pineapple to it and I heard it's amazing:

yes! i can't wait to lie down and not sink so far into the mattress that i can't see :-P
and kim, DEFINITELY get a pedicure. it's so worth it. i have had some bad manicures too, like so bad that as soon as i left the salon 1/2 the polish chipped off. but a well done pedicure is worth the money for sure. watch out though, they are addictive!
hendricks gin----cucumber puree---slice of cucumber....salt rim = fabulous
hendricks gin---cucumber puree + slice of cucumber(very thin) + salt rim= fabulous
My FAVORITE cocktail is something I picked up at Middlesex: a Pimms Cup. Ginger Ale, rum (Pimms preferred but I have a huge jug of cheaper gold rum), a strawberry (I slice it to get more flavor) and a slice of cucumber. The BEST summer drink there is, semi-sweet but refreshing because of the cukes.
I also saw different iced tea recipes in Real Simple and stuck the page to my fridge hoping alcoholic inspiration would strike. One of the drinks was garnished with fresh watermelon cubes and basil leaves. I haven't tried yet but have been dying to. In a Long Island obviously.
That rum drink sounds awesome!! i don't like super sweet drinks so that would be perfect, easy too.
MJ - i will be trying that one out too! do you just puree the cukes in the food processor?
I hear ya - we have a queen bed but whenever we travel we stay in a king so we always come back to UGH!
haha that is the worst. we have a queen too and when we stay in hotels we usually get a king...so when we are back home we feel like we are in a damn twin!
if we had room in our bedroom for a king, i would be all over that! all that space = heaven.(clearly i am not a nightime cuddler!) :-P
I know a good cocktail - the Moltov. And a good place to throw it? The Tiki Palace. :)
HAHA! Martini wins!
made an appointment for next wednesday during my lunch-break. she said it's be 45 minutes to an hour. what the eff do they do for that long? but i really can't wait :)
Since being at the Cape for a week I've adopted the Bernie and Phyls jingle as my personal mantra...Bernie and Physl...Quality, Comfort, Price...That's Nice!
Love Ballet Slippers! But no matter how tan I am, Cajun Shrimp never looks good on me. I pick it up, and subsequently put it down, every time....
ah, hillary beat me to it :) that jingle is the devil. i have lived outside of boston for three years now, and still it worms its way into my head sometimes.
that and 1-800-54-GIANT (call...giant glass!)
Do you guys remember when it was Furniture Discount, "The Home of the Works"? That hasn't been on in years and years and I still have it in my head sometimes. So we are all screwed i think.
