My New Best Friends

1)

Sunsilk "Anti Poof" Creme.
I bought a bottle of this at CVS on our way up to New Hampshire this past weekend because my bottle of Redken "Ringlet" semi-exploded (good times). I didn't have high hopes for it, and intended to use other weapons in my anti-fro artilerary as back up but this stuff is FANTASTIC. Seriously, smells great, isn't greasy and tames curly hair into pretty non poofy (but non crunchy) ringlets. I highly reccomend.

2)
You know me and gin go way back, my first legal drink at the tender age of 21 was an extra dry Tanqueray martini with three olives and this continues to be my signature drink (though these days my tastes are more dirty than dry). Last night, Adam and I went to Joe's for an apres work cocktail after running some errands and when I ordered one of their new summery drinks, the cucumber martini, the bartender told me "No, you don't want that". When I asked him why he said if I didn't like gin, I wouldn't like this since it was basically just Hendrick's gin (which is cucumber and rose petal infused) with a cucumber garnish. I assured him that hello, I would marry gin if gin were a person and so he poured me a taste of Hendrick's to make sure. And when I say he poured me a taste I mean he poured me straight up a glass and one sip and I was smitten. It's the smoothest gin I have ever tasted and I fully intend to pick up a bottle after work and reinstate the apres-work martini at home. And I bet it is divine in a G&T.

3) Eating lunch at 11AM. Ever since I started actually eating breakfast a few months ago, I am ravenous all morning long. That kickstart to the metabolism at 7:30AM sends mine into overdrive and I watch the clock, waiting for lunch all morning long. A few of my coworkers and I found this fabulous sandwich place nearby that delivers, and opens at TEN THIRTY AM. That is unheard of. So we order our lunch every day at that time, it arrives and we feast. And then weirdly I am not hungry for the rest of the day even though when I DIDN'T eat breakfast I would become ravenous around the 3PM stretch. Interesting, oui? And because Adam and I are so Euro (read: I can't get my act together to cook dinner until 7) we don't eat dinner until 7:30/8PM usually. I can't even imagine eating dinner at 5 or 6. It seems so early now.

Sorry this entry is lame. That glass o'gin last night really packed a punch!

So who are your new best friends?

I like gin and tonic - my uncle always made the best, but I think he used Bombay Sapphire?

Anyway - cucumber martini sounds delish! Cool and fresh, no? :)

Oddly enough I had Hendrick's gin for the first time last night at P.F.Changs. VEry very smooth.

Really????? Eating at 10:30 a.m. works?? That's so odd. I usually put it off and eat lunch at like 1 p.m. and I'm always starving. I might have to try your way.

My friends always laugh at me when I tell them I eat breakfast. They wonder when I find the time. However, what they don't seem to understand is like you said, it kick starts the metabolism. I can't live without my bowl of cereal in the morning. I love any cereal by Cascadian Farms.

Ah...Jack and Sprite is my go-to drink when I am out. It almost always catches people by surprise because 1. people tend to have this idea that I'm too "innocent" (ha!) for whiskey and 2. everyone is used to Jack and Coke, but Jack and Sprite is not something you see people drinking much of. Very tasty, though.

I might try that anti-poof stuff you speak of. My hair pretends to be naturally curly but I can never get it to DO anything so I give up and straighten it or pull it up.

Holy long comment, Batman. Happy Thursday! :-D

Fox - isn't it delightful? most other brands of gin straight up are usually pretty foul but this I could handle.

Carmen- haah i feel i may be setting a bad example. technically we order at 10:30 and it arrives at 11 or so... if you try it out let me know how it goes!

Sisters - it is hard to find time! I usually go with a diet coke and a special K bar followed with some applesauce...all of which I keep at work that way I have no excuse to skip it!

Amanda - i like your style! a friend of mine drinks jameson straight up and i always thought i disliked whiskey, but that is actually quite nice!

I covet the anti-poof stuff - makes my straight hair soft and curly!

Hendrick's is a good buddy of ours as well...glad you found it! It does taste good, but the smell is really what does it for me. I'd wear the stuff as perfume if I could.

When I was kid my friend's parents had a dog named Tanker-Ray. As an adult, it occured to me that the dog was actually named Tanqueray.

mmmmm, I love me some gin. I'm a curly hair gal and I typically use Curls Rock by Catwalk/bedhead, but I'll have to try the sunsilk, I'm always up for cheaper options. Thanks for the heads-up!

I may have to try the Anti-Poof, I am always looking for the magic product that will allow me to wear my hair down without it becoming both flat and poufy at the same time.

I think you will really like it. My hair is really tough to control, it eats up product and renders it useless. This stuff really works for me though (with some hairspray of course!). Plus it's only like $4 a bottle so even if it doesn't work the way you want it too, you won't feel like you wasted tons of money. Let me know how it goes!

I've gained more weight since I started eating breakfast. I've tried so many different things, but I'm still insanely hungry by 11. I'm then starving again at 3. If I don't eat breakfast I can go until at least 12 and need only a little snack at 3. I don't get it...

Speaking of cucumber... Bath and Body Works has a cucumber scent coming out soon. I bought the $1.00 trial bottle last week - reminds me of the old one from VS. Nice clean and light scent for the summer!

thanks for the heads up! when i was young, my best friend's mom wore that spray and I LOVED it. We used to sneak into her room and douse ourselves with it when she wasn't home. I am definitely checking it out!
