In With The New
In my efforts to support emerging artists on whatever level I can (ok so maybe the real reason is I can't stop shopping and if the wares happen to be fabulous pieces from up and coming artists, so be it), I have picked up a few fun things over the past few weeks.
First of all, I ordered some FAB-U-LOUS stationary from Miss Humphries over at English Tea Paperie a few weeks ago and it has come in super handy. Not to mention it is super cute,
I ordered the martini (shocking!) illustrated flat note cards personalized with my name.
They arrived promptly within a week, tied with an adorable grosgrain ribbon and even came with matching return address labels. I am very impressed with the qualityand will definitely be re-stocking soon!
Then, because the walls in our office are decdicely bare, I picked up a painting from ultra-talented Hull artist Gary Hedrick, whose bold pieces are PERFECT for a room that is severely lacking in personality. In fact, since hanging it whereas I used to walk into the office and think "ugh, this room sucks", I now walk in and am PSYCHED!
This is definitely a painting to build a room around. I already have visions of getting a half dozen Eames shell chairs in vivid colors and making the office into a funky sitting room.
Sigh. Being that the chairs are like $300 a pop that is a dream for another time (and another budget, although I have been trolling Craig's List hoping to get lucky!) but Gary's wonderful pieces are affordable and just as fantastic and fun!
Also on the colorful tip (sensing a theme here? I am so tired of my beige, black + brown routine!) are the wonderful fused glass rings from Amy Burhoe
(picture from www.amyburhoe.com)
I love her rings. They are the perfect way to punch up a drab outfit, add a bit of drama to solid colored ensemble. I have already ordered one and am quite sure will be ordering a bunch more. She puts up new rings on her site fairly frequently but they go FAST so check back often for new inventory!
So that about sums up my adventures in art-allocating over the past few weeks. I'm sure with the advent of the South End Open Market this list will grow and I will be sure to keep you updated, not only because it's fun to share good deals on marvelous things but beacuse seriously? I have nothing better to do.

Those rings are GORG! I am totally buying one today!
Awesome stuff! I might have to get some of that stationary. Be careful with the rings - my coworker bought a glass ring at the Girls' Night Out, and an hour later, it broke when she lightly slapped the table while laughing.
Wear only if you're not clumsy! :)
oh i know! my mother brought me this GORGEOUS Murano glass ring from Venice last year and it was broken within a month. These rings are not quite the same though, they are SUPER sturdy and the glass is really thick so it's very difficult to break, good for a clutz like moi! :-)
I love them all! Honestly, where do you find out about all of this great stuff? Tell us your secret!
What great finds. Thanks for sharing.
cute stuff - I especially love the art - it's magnificent!
I love the painting ... it will definitely make a statement wherever you hang it. For some reason I couldn't view it on my home computer (I'm at my parents'house now). Have a great weekend in NH!
