Goldilocks and the Three Handbags

One day, a young girl was experiencing a handbag conundrum.

She owned around thirty handbags, a collection comprised mostly of finds from the Talbot's outlet and her mother's trips to Europe. She had clutches and hobos and totes and wristlets and top handles and shoulder bags. She loved her handbags almost as much as she love my shoes.

And you know that's a whole lotta love.

But recently, changes in her life have neccesitated seeking out a new bag. There has been a new addition that requires more room in my life, and in her handbag. And a very cute addition at that.

A weekly planner.

With all her work deadlines and various other goings on, this sort of thing was sorely needed. (Actually what she sorely need was a Treo but until her contract ended this would have to suffice)

Toting a planner around means not being able to use most of her "work" bags which are an assortment of hobos and medium-sized shoulder bags. She didn't like toting a tote around as an everyday bag either so that ruled those out. She was not sure why she didn't like totes. Maybe it's because because the word "tote" conjures up images of this canvas Esprit tote she used as a school bag all through middle school. It was bright eggplant and had the word "ESPRIT" written in chartreuse. Jealous?

Anyway, any work bag would have to be black she wears a lot of black and usually wore black shoes to work. She also can't have a bag that is TOO nice as her every day bag because she waw fond of throwing her bag around, into her car, under my desk and was especially fond of dropping it in the snow.

So off the young girl went to the handbag department at TJ Maxx to get herself a black, not too nice but still nice large handbag that is not a tote. Sounds simple right?

Nothing ever is, when it comes to a girl and her bag.

The first bag she picked up, a lovely Liz Claiborne Satchel in crocodile.

She liked this, because the style reminds me of Karen Walker. It was also a good size with long enough straps that she could carry it on my shoulder.

"I don't like the fold over clasp!" she exclaimed. "Too hard to get into when I'm in a rush"

So, moving on she found the Sak Shopper

This was the perfect size, had the top closure she liked....but with that shape and the shorter straps it was kind of a shopper in tote's clothing. And you know how she feels about totes.

"The straps are too short!" she said.

Then suddenly, the clouds parted and there it was:

(in black, with silver hardware)

Nine West. Woven so it won't show it's wear as quickly. Big enough for a planner, wallet, perfume, makeup, camera, phone, MP3 player, magazine, and anything else the girl threw in there. Nice, but not TOO nice.

And so the girl lived happily ever after, with her perfect work handbag.

Stay tuned for the next segment of fashion fairy tales, James and the Giant Wallet.

Loved the fairy tale. I constantly am on the search for the perfect work bag, a few summers ago I had a leather/nylon bag from jcrew that was fab. but it was bright yellow (not exactly a wintery color) its an everyday struggle for the elusive item, glad you found yours!

I had the exact same ESPRIT bag and <3'ed it!

Love your new bag - I need to scour TJ's for one, too. Right now, I'm carrying around a tote, but I suppose that's definitely teacher-ish.
