Every year aroung this time, the same thing starts happening. I drive by churches and halls with signs out front "Holiday Craft Fair 10-4!!" and inevitably I go in and peruse all the tables of crafts and ornaments and baked goods and end up leaving with a bunch of crap that I don't need but could not resist buying. The word "handmade" really does it for me, what can I say?
And finally this year, it occured to me. I could be the person selling the crap, and not just the person buying it!!
So I tapped into my crafty instincts and set myself up with a little homemade Christmas ornament business on the side this year. I buy beaded necklaces from thrift and vintage stores, and take them apart, supplement those beads with some storebought accents and floral wire, a little Christmas spirit and voila
I wouldn't call these finished products, but they are well on their way. And this is what I have been working on for most of the weekend, taking a breif break today for a jaunt to Punjab Cafe with some girlfriends and a trip to Michael's to re-bead.
I have about 15 done (these shizzes take SO much longer to make than it seems like they would) so far, and plan on having many, many more done in time for the Fuller Village Christmas Fair in Milton on November 18th which Jenny and I will be sharing a table at; she with her fabulous Christmas cards featuring her photography, and me with my beadtastic Christmas ornaments.
And probably a bottle of wine with some Dixie cups, knowing us.
So if you live in the area, and are free between 10AM and 2PM on that day, I highly reccomend coming by and checking us out. Especially if the word "handmade" does it for you, too.

I won't be around, but those are adorable...I'd love to buy some, especially since this will be the first year I have enough room for a tree!! Care to offer a pre-sale sale?
Those are so cute! Count me in for the Christmas Fair, babe. Save me a dixie cup of wine? ;)
in a sea of christmas-fair-old-ladies (i assume??), you guys will be the shit.
if i thought i had a chance in hell of getting to milton without getting lost, I would definitely go.
Jayne - we'll go together!
you guys should totally come towards the end and then we can all go out for a late lunch at ashmont grill!
oh and frankie: you are cute. i will send you a little holiday care package after the fair :-)
I just decided to take up embroidery as my winter hobby, and I saw a picture of crosstitch on plastic canvas with attached beads. It might be interesting to cut the shapes you want out of plastic canvas and do threading/beading around it- it'll hold its shape really well (especially in storage) and combining fancy threads with fancy beads would be awesome. This is sorta what I mean- but less thread, more bead, and maybe a little less 3D...

ps, my firm designed Fuller Village. Take a moment to notice the carefully chosen (at Homegoods, don't tell the residents) and placed artwork done by moi.

as for the other thing i am not really into embroidery or anything embroidery related. i mean the finished product always looks amazing! but actually going in and out of those tiny holes drives me nuts! thanks for the tip though :-)
