Good lord, today is crazed!!

On top of other projects that are driving me nuts this week, I am also heading up the recruitment for my replacement at work (I got promoted a few weeks ago). And who better knows how to fill my shoes than, well, me?

(That and no one else wants to be botthered with it)

So while sifting through resume, after resume I learned a few things:

* When sending an email inquiry about a job, it is considered in poor form to have an email address such as Hottiez99@gmail.com (i made up the gmail part, but the first part was an actual email address someone sent me a resume from today. ) As much as I would like to have a "hottie" taking my place, or even multiple "hottiez", a more professional means of contact is preferred.

*Email signatures are all well and good, but Tupac lyrics are unneccesary, however poetic they may seem.

*Same with quotes about Jesus.

*Writing "Hi. How are you? I am good" at the beginning of a cover letter is polite I'm sure, but it also is unnecessary.

And then there are the whole other batch of resumes from people with fabulously written cover letters who are much better than I am, more qualified and probably much more pleasant people.

I would almost rather have "Hottiez99" up here than "10 years experience, numerous accolades, best employee EVER".

Just kidding!

oqtujai do the first interviews here for most open positions and i totally agree with you. you wouldn't believe some people's email addresses! and also, if you are applying for jobs, you should make sure your outgoing voicemail message is professional.

I am scanning resumes now also and have found that people with experience working with a fryolators, mops, being a circus clown and\or mime have found something in my Tech Support position that sparked their interest. Oh and I also got a "Yo, iz that job stil open? If so Holla back at your boy" -- I am unfortunately not kidding.

Egads! I will not wonder at lack of professionalism in the workplace ever again. If that's the gene pool we have to choose employees from...
Yikes.

I am down to one blog a day and it's yours. The wonders of the workforce- Did we go(or "Are we going...", in my case) to college for this?

Congrats on your promotion! YAY! :o)

Good luck finding your replacement. That's a tough spot to be in, because you want them to be good so you don't end up having to pick up their slack again, but you also don't want that to be superstars that totally take away all the light your breathed into the place, either (the NERVE!). Haha!
