Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, it is not technically a weekend wrap up yet since I am about half way through a 4 day weekend. But what can you do?

The weekend so far had been magnificent. Saturday was my uncle's wedding reception hosted by my other uncle in Braintree. It was perfectly gorgeous with white tents set up outside, a dance floor around the pool, and the most attentive catering staff I have ever encountered. Did I mention it was open bar? Oh yeah. Which I am sure contributed to my uncle Wayne donning an Elvis costume, complete with wig and sunglasses, and comandeering a microphone from the DJ to sing "Little Sister" to my eighty year old grandmother. It was EPIC. A penchant for karaoke clearly runs in the family. Also a penchant for open bars.

After the reception ended around 9, Adam and I went back to our house to grab some drinks and headed down to the beach to drink in the sand and take in the gorgeous summer night air. Something about the beach at night in the summer is so fabulous.

Yesterday, feeling antsy (literally, our apartment is infested with ants but that is a story for another day) we took a road trip to Oakdale, Connecticut where my cousin Jen was hosting a party an her house on the lake. The drive was nice , the weather was perfect and a good time was had by all. Adam and I learned that we have a soft spot in our hearts for SoCo and Ginger. (On Friday when I was doing the "weekend liquor run", I mysteriously bought Southern Comfort even though neither of us drink it. Call it a whim. It turns out that, when served over ice with ginger ale, it is quite tasty). And when that ran out there was tequila and jack daniels shots. And SO MUCH family gossip. I feel like my ears might fall off. Tales of secret first marriages and McCarthyism-antics when you are three sheets to the wind are enough to knock your socks off, believe you me. Clearly you can add a penchant for gossip to the list of Things That Run in My Family.

And so now here I am waiting for Adam to finish watching Entourage On Demand so we can hit the beach. Tomorrow include plans for a cookout in Natick and probably some late night drinking on the beach with the sparklers we bought in Maine a few weekends ago.

Happy (early) Fourth!

Glad to hear someone is having a fabulous holiday... I'm stuck working... ugh! What can a gal do - will try the SoCo recipe since I seem to have an almost full bottle that I can't seem to get rid of.

Ahhh.. Oakdale.. isn't there some theater or something there - I remember it from eons ago...

ditto on the "i'm stuck working" front! but i'm getting out of here by 3:00, i don't even care, because i am the only one at the office. and you know, f that.

sounds like you're having a delightful weekend, sarah...just know i am immensely jealous of the drinking + beach combination!

I am sooooo jealous! My fantastic and busily fun weekend has been interrupted by having to show up to work today!!! Fuck this, really. No one is here - NO ONE! (I spent the day reading Nick Hornby's "A Long Way Down". Buy it. Seriously.) But if I don't show, I don't get paid. Oh yeah, and I tripped the alarm coming in today. They gave me a key, but no code. Brilliant. This was a wonderful start to the rest of my week. I wasn't going to drink tonight, but I think I've changed my mind.

i definitely *had* work today...but i used a vacation day to make it a four day weekend. :-) and drinking on weeknights is always a fab idea in my opinion :-)

SoCo is also wicked strangely good with grapefruit juice and lime.

But this is coming from a girl who also pairs grapefruit juice with chocolate chip pancakes, so take it from whence it comes....

ooh ohh! or fresca! that may be safer.
I just made that up. If it's good, i'll work on a patent... lemme know.

fresca is the bomb but over the long weekend i came up with some gourmet shit:

1.5 oz SoCo
4 oz Polar Grapefruit Seltzer
2 oz Grapefruit Juice
1 sugar cube

Holy jesus it is goooood. You could obvi omit the sugar cube if you are not a fiend like moi.
