so, Happy Halloween!

this weekend i celebrated the season with an Oktoberfest party in Quincy (complete with brats and wurst and biers) followed by a costume party in the North End (complete with drag queens, and Cher and Tara Reid). so really, i think i experienced the best of both worlds.

this year, i dressed up as a ladybug: so i have on a red short sleeved dress with black polka dots, black satin arm length gloves, black tights and bright red shoes, black & red antennas and i had fabulous ladybug wings but they came to an early demise on saturday night, when i tried to make them permanently spread out.

it's okay though.

and i have to say this is the time of year i really miss working in Boston. on Halloween last year: i saw a princess, The Little Mermaid, Chiquita Banana, a cowboy, and several other "characters" on the train and walking the streets on my morning commute.

now i work in Newton, aka the Town that Killed Halloween so of course no one is dressed up.

i'm not ashamed to admit that i am a holiday girl. i love holidays and i usually go all out. i always dress up on halloween and give out treats, i always bake something apple-y on Thanksgiving, i always always throw a Christmas party and wear my santa hat with pride. and dont get me started on Valentine's Day.

yeah, i'm annoying.

but i figure, life is too short to be so serious. it's fun to get hokey and into the spirit of things like this. when else during the year can i wear antennae to work?

anyway, i was struck with inspiration on Sunday. i wanted to bring some kind of goodies into work and originally i thought "mini cupcakes" but those things are so time consuming and messy to frost..and i mean i wanted to be festive but i didn't want to go OUT OF MY WAY to do so.

and then inspiration struck.

bundt.

pumpkin bundt to be exact.

so i made my devil's food cake in a bundt pan, frosted it orange and made a mini cupcake to frost green and put in the middle.

here are the results:

not as pumpkin esque as i would have liked, but not too shabby in the end.

and tonight i am going to my parents house to give out treats since we dont get trick or treaters in my building (maybe my landlord is originally from Newton?). and then Adam and i will be going out for a halloween cocktail or two and you better believed we will be the hottest ladybug/police detective couple out there tonight.
so, if you dressed up today then good for you. and if not, at least have yourself some candy corn and revel in the day for a minute or two.

i adore the cake :) not "dressed up" per se, but I am wearing a hideous 70s-grandma inspired blouse, so that has to count for something. Plus, I work in Newton, so you know how that goes.

Cute cake! And your costume sounds adorable. I am a holiday person too. Life is just more fun that way!
