Adventures in P-Town.
Last Thursday, I picked up Jill bright and early at the Quincy Center T Stop and we headed down to Plymouth, to catch the 10AM ferry to Provincetown. Along the way we blasted Britney, discussed the awesomeness of our impending trip, and paid not too much attention to the driving wind and rain outside.
when we were arrived at the Plymouth dock, we were informed by the ticket taker that the ferry was NOT going to be running today because of the bad weather. i must have said "fuck" about 100 times after that, but that was more because my skirt kept blowing up over my head (the boho look is tres chic, but no so appro for hurricane like winds, TRUST ME). so jill and i decided to drive down, since basically there was no other option and there was no way we were not going!
it ended up being fabulous, NO traffic (for once!!) and we got there an hour before we would have gotten there if we had taken the ferry AND there was a parking spot for us at the beachhouse!
Andy had been staying there all week with his good friends Barry and Mocha. they made us feel very welcome upon our arrival at the ungodly hour of 10:30AM and we knew right away we were in for a good time. after relaxing and catching up for a bit, Andy Jill and I walked into Downtown P-town to do some shopping. now, i don't know if you know this: but i like to shop. and P town is chock full of quaint, little stores that sell funky jewelery, crafts, art, kitchy kitchen ornaments, fabulous shoes/clothing, etc. and with a few porn stores thrown in for good measure it is my kind of town!.
we met the girls (Barry, Mocha and James aka J-Lo) for lunch at Bubelas but since the host was such a bitchy queen we ended up across the street (we were waiting to be seated at Bubelas for like 20 minutes and NO one had come over to even speak to us, so i of course was all "oh hell no" and went to ask a waitress if we were waiting in the right spot? and she was like "oh here is the host, now" and i asked him if he knew how long the wait was for a table and his repsonse to me was "get back in line". exCUSE me? i just want a number of minutes i will have to wait in said line which i might add consists only of me and my hotass friends who wouldn't even deign to look twice at you but you don't know that so why the atttitude?) yeah so we went across the street for bloody marys and bellinis and paninis oh my! thats the thing about P town....you drink all day which has a serious doubling if not tripling effect on the amount of shopping you do, believe me.
(it also affects the kinds of items you purchase: just ask my brand new huge rhinestone watch)
so after lunch we did some more shopping and then headed home to get ready for Tea aka Teadance. (something else you must know about P town is that everything requires an outfit change) so after we had helped ourselves to some glasses of wine and changed into fabulous Tea Appropriate outfits, we headed to Tea. It is essentially an enourmous dance party that takes over the huge dock of a local hotel. there is a heated tent, and pool area as well as lots of alcohol and lots of fabulous 70s grooves. Jill and i were a hit, since 1) we were the only girls there 2) andy is a social butterfly who knew basically everyone there.
it was a Good Time. plus, the 5 glasses of pinot didn't hurt.
we stopped off for a quick bite and mojito on the way home for our third costume change of the day for our nightly plans. we had some more wine, adjusted the eye makeup, watched some "Being Bobby Brown" for inspiration (work, Whitney!) and headed down to Captain Bradford's..a local dive FAMOUS for it's karaoke. I immediately took to the floor with my rendition of Lulu's "To Sir With Love" which i have always wanted to sing, but no place ever has it! thank god gay men have better musical taste than the rest of us! Andy and Barry both got up to rock the mike and after an hour or 2 Jill and i were back up there singing Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love To You". (always a hit!) and then, sadly, i had to call it a night because i was Drunk with a D which in my world means i will soon be Puking with a P. (if you look back in this entry and take note of how much i drank, and the fact that i started at 2PM, you will not be surprised). so I stumbled home to the beach house to pass out, while the rest of the party raged on, and even met Mr. Jai Rodriguez from Queer Eye later in the night. lucky bitches!!!
the next day, i woke up before my hangover which was nice in a way. we convened in the living room for Golden Girls and collecting of shoes/bags/clothes left strewn about the house, and in the late morning Jill and I (and Andy) left the beach house and headed back to Boston, with memories of lots of alcohol, fabulous shopping, fabulous friends and good times in our minds.
so anyone in the MA area who is looking for something fun to do on a day-trip. i would COMPLETELY reccomend going down to Provincetown for the day. It's only about a 2/2.5 hour drive from Boston. Or you can take a ferry from the Boston seaport for $60 or one from Plymouth for $3o and they both take 1.5 hours. there are plenty of nice restaurants, beaches, shopping and entertainment to keep you occupied and you can't beat the culture!
and if you go, and you see a Gina Gershon look-alike drag queen, tell her Andy, JIll and Sarah say hi :-)
